I'll start off by saying this could be a nice hotel with its incredible views. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end, as the hotel is currently offering a hugely substandard experience to anyone staying here. It is certainly not the Platinum hotel it is being marketed and sold as. There is major construction work taking place literally on the hotel's doorstep and for around 200m along the road outside, so much so we've experienced being unable to exit the hotel due to construction machinery blocking the road. On arrival, the transfer coach is unable to reach the hotel due to the construction work. We were dropped off 100m away and had to navigate an unlit gravel road in darkness. Anyone with mobility issues or young children's push chair will have real difficulty with any access or egress of the hotel. The apartment we have been allocated (303) is well equipped and spacious, other than the bedroom which is small and not air conditioned. As previously mentioned, the views are incredible and the balcony is massive. Again unfortunately, that's where the positives end, we've been unable to make any use of our apartment or balcony due to renovation work taking place in the hotel. Drilling and machinery begin at around 8am and continues some days until after 8:30pm, rendering our apartment and balcony useless as it's impossible to relax or enjoy the space. Breakfasts are good with plenty of choice. Again that's where the positives end. The breakfast area is also in the midst of being renovated. We've literally had to walk around workmen tiling the floor to get from the food service area to the seating area. Evening meals, currently the only option is the a'la carte offering in the Aqua restaurant, the buffet selection is unavailable "due to external operational and logistical reasons." The a'la carte option gives a tiny selection each night, 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 dessert. The food has been OK, more akin to a tasting menu than evening meal, but with such a dismal selection we've only used it twice. We've incurred additional cost having to eat out rather than using the half board option we've paid for. As other reviews have mentioned, the hotel is situated at the highest point in the resort but we knew that before we arrived, so it wasn't a surprise. It takes around 20 minutes to walk from the small town at the bottom of the hill back up to the hotel, it's all uphill and fairly steep at some points. A few other points to note, there are ample loungers around the pool area, I've never seen the area even half full (possibly down to the area being subject to renovation work noise), so no need for anyone hog loungers. Apartments have a safe but it costs an additional €3 per day to use - not the norm in a 4 star hotel. In summary, The Royal Sun is ordinarily probably a nice place to spend a week or two but currently it offers no chance to enjoy or relax. The current offering is substandard, absolutely nowhere near the 4 star level
