Smy Carlos V Wellness & Spa Alghero

The Hotel is situated in a wonderful spot with a fantastic sea view. You can tell it was a top place when it was built but now it seems a little outdated. The rooms are comfortable with nice linens and a great shower. However, some details are inadequate for a presumed 5-star Hotel. Some examples: no face tissues in the bathroom, no extra pillows with different height (the 2 in the bed were too low to be used singles and too high to be used doubles). Another sub-par experience was breakfast: cold fried eggs (pre-cooked), cold cuts not fresh and not high quality, no sausages, no freshly squeezed orange juice, etc. In summary a good stay, but it should have been better for the fame and the price.

Majority of staff were brilliant. Going out of their way to make up for the fact Carlos v falls very short of offering 5* accommodation let alone superior standards. Cc hotels are lucky to have such good staff. Pity the directors not interested in hospitality

The Carlis V in Alghero is definitely not a 5 star hotel. I will say that most of the staff were friendly, the rooms are spacious enough and the view is lovely ( but you pay a hefty price for it ). We always stay in 5 star hotels , but the standards here are certainly not worthy of a 5 star. There was no porter to carry a suitcase , the rooms were quite basic in design, the television remote worked only occasionally, there were plastic cups in the bathroom , a strong smell of sewerage in our corridor and the menu was very limited. All fairly small things really that you could overlook once you settle in , considering the small amount of time you actually spend there , while out sight seeing what is a beautiful town. ( Even though for a 6 night stay costing over 3000e , I would expect a higher standard. ) What really disappointed us was an incident which occurred on the final evening. We had a rented car which we parked each evening in the hotel's small 20 space carpark. On our return from an afternoons outing , we turned into the car park to be greeted with tape around all the spaces. The desk manager then came running out and starting shouting at us that we couldn't park there , as it was reserved for the porsche car club who were arriving with their cars shortly. He was extremely rude and told us and other guests that we had to find a parking space on the public road . No parking for us mere mortals who probably had paid a higher premium than a group rate that a club or group might have received. So all other guests who were parked there , were also told to leave. This , really irked us enough to complain, to no avail. In the Irish hospitality business, this would be totally unacceptable. I would comfortably say that this is maybe 4 star , but probably below this rating , but I can definitely say , we would not stay here again. In fact we visited two other 4 star hotels very near here and down on the new town opposite the beach , that looked to be of higher standard. Very disappointing service and one very rude staff member.

The only reason I have given a star was for the spa. The hotel is extremely overpriced, swimming pool with dirty. Food was terrible and it felt like you were in a canteen and one particular waiter (sorry I did t get his name) had no manners at all. They do not cater much for vegetarians or vegans. I would not recommend half board just have breakfast here. Would I return to this hotel, NO. Not even if I was given a free stay. We stayed in a bigger suit as it was our anniversary. I would rather recommend another hotel in the area.

We’ve just had 9 days at this beautiful hotel in a double superior room with balcony overlooking sea and pool. Room was large, modern and clean. Lovely large bathroom with complimentary products and hairdryer. Mini bar and safe also. Huge storage / hanging space in wardrobes. We asked for a rollaway bed for our daughter which was kindly provided. All staff were lovely and very helpful. Pool is large with plenty of sun beds and never an issue finding one no matter what time we went to the pool (opens at 10). We hired a car and always able to park near hotel or in their small car park. Walk to old town is a gentle 15 min stroll along the stunning seafront road with market sellers at night, bars and restaurants en-route too. Overall a wonderful stay in beautiful Alghero and will surely return to this hotel.

Booked 4 nights at this hotel. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances and the disappointing standard of the hotel, we took a decision to leave the hotel after just one night. We had booked with the hotel directly (not via an agent) and under the pre-paid/no refund condition. Nevertheless we hoped, given that we had booked directly, that the hotel would show some kindness and discretion and refund something. They would not, and that of course is their prerogative, nevertheless in my opinion it is unreasonable to take the full pay for 4 nights when the customer only stays one night. Some discretionary refund could surely have been made. So buyer beware with no refund terms. This hotel sticks to it. In terms of the hotel the rooms were ok. There is one small pool. Service was slow and generally unfriendly. Lunch was a very dry focaccia (not freshly prepared). We won’t go back and I couldn’t recommend this property. I also don’t consider this hotel to be 5* standard.
