I booked Rock Lobster City Lodge because I wanted to stay in a cool place with a soul—a place that would feel a little bit like home. I was on a city trip with my 10 year old daughter and I wanted her to experience the thrill of playing records on a turntable for the first time. I also wanted a cosy place where we could hang out and listen to music after a long day out sightseeing. This gem of a B&B delivers all that and more. Eva and Bart are the perfect hosts: They are kind, helpful, easy-going, friendly and full of great tips. For starters, the place is located in a beautiful, central neighborhood away from the tourist circuit but only a 15 minute walk from Central station. Great restaurants abound on the bucolic tree-lined square down the street. The B&B is spotless, and my favorite part is the lounge with comfy chairs, the afore-mentioned turntable, soft lighting and a fun selection of vinyl to play. We stayed in the Glam Rock room, which is on the second floor and faces the back. A gorgeous black & white photo portrait of David Bowie greeted us every morning and the bed is very comfortable (complete with hard or soft pillow option). There's a small courtyard in the back with tables and chairs (perfect for sunny summer breakfast or a beer on warm evenings), and a kitchen where you can help yourself to fresh local beers (honor system, payable at the end). Continental breakfast is 19 euros a person and doesn't disappoint. I just with they had homemade hot cocoa. Bart and Eva will be more than happy to help with recommendations, including Eva's favorite, the Plantin-Moretus museum, a renaissance family's house/printing business housing 500 year-old printing presses and rare books). Don't skip this museum--it's fantastic. Thank you Bart and Eva for having created Rock Lobster Lodge. We will be back!
