What a find! We had to find a last minute stopover on our drive to the Alps as our travel plans changed, saw the good reviews of the Auberge and booked 2 rooms and dinner for the 4 of us. We were warmly welcomed and made very comfortable by Maria, and were astonished at what a beautiful building we were staying in. The rooms were warm, the beds comfortable and we had plenty of hot water for showers. Dinner was delicious, and freshly home cooked local produce - and they were happy to accommodate the vegetarian in our party. Breakfast was simple but again delicious and our hosts were very friendly and helpful. If we are driving through France again we would definitely return here and recommend it - a very unusual, charming, history-packed place to stay!

A wonderful stay at an historic medieval mansion house. Restore by the owner the property is exceptional with food and wine to match. A highly recommended stay for a few days suitable for any discerning traveller transiting this wonderful region of France.

Large hotel in a very old building, a little quaint in ‘medieval’ style. Large dining room as in a medieval castle. Hotel rooms also atmospheric in style. We slept in a bed with a canopy! Excellent dinner, not expensive, really very friendly and helpful staff. Auberive is a nice little quiet town with a huge abbaye that is well worth visiting. Highly recommended!

It’s not every night you sleep in a four poster bed in a C13 building! Auberive is a picturesque village built around the abbey - which is 3 or 4 miles off the motorway near Langres (about 5 hours drive south from Calais). The auberge is the original guest house to the old abbey and has 6 rooms. Our room was large and historic, but very comfortable and warm with a modern en suite shower and loo. Hairdryer also provided. Dinner (€43 per head for 4 courses) and breakfast were in a magnificent dining room with a vaulted ceiling and huge open log fire, approached through the medieval kitchens. The food, cooked by the lady owner, was superb as were the excellent selection of local wines. The lady owner is charming and made us feel extremely welcome. It was a more expensive stay than we might otherwise have chosen for an overnight stop on the way back from skiing, but it was a real treat and a wonderful experience. We would highly recommend it to others. You won’t be disappointed. Stayed March 2022

5 star rating based on cultural experience. Places like this should be treasured. Where else can you dine just like that in a place where monks had dinner in the 13th century. Food and room care are basic but nice. We doubted whether to stay here but this will be more memorable than other hotels en route to the South of France. We are a family with small children and we stayed in the family room.

Arrivés par hasard après une route buissonnière, belle découverte. Cadre ancien et romantique, calme et beau malgré le temps gris, accueil charmant, très bon repas grâce à un menu du jour fait de main de maître, ou maîtresse, accompagné d'un vin découverte, Domaine Camus Renaut. Nous ferons le détour volontairement et volontiers lors de notre prochaine descente vers le sud. Merci

Wir lieben diese alten Gebäude. Und - hej Leute - was soll das Gemaule ? Wenn man in einem so alten Gebäude übernachtet weiß man was einen erwartet. Der Empfang war super freundlich. Das Personal spricht Englisch. Genial : die offene Dusche in einer Mauernische. Das Abendessen war top mit exzellenten Weinen. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen.

Das Zimmer war sehr kalt, feucht. Das Bett war viel zu weich, ich hing fast bis zum Boden durch. Vom angrenzenden Kamin des Speisesaal roch es im Zimmer nach Rauch. Treppenhaus sehr staubig. Das Essen war spärlich, nicht schlecht, aber amateurhaft. Da ich mich über das kalte Zimmer und die Rauchentwicklung beklagt hatte, erschien der Besitzer am Tisch und wollte diskutieren. Unangenehm. Ich hatte drei Nächte reserviert, bin aber nach einer Nacht abgereist.

Disons le d'entrée: le lieu est inspirant. On est transporté dans le temps et l'histoire. Autre force: la grande qualité de l'accueil, la gentillesse des propriétaires et du personnel. À noter aussi le calme de l'endroit. La literie est également correcte. La chambre que nous occupions (André Theuriet), en particulier sa salle de bain, mériterait en revanche quelques travaux de rénovation... Le supplément chien (20 euros/jour) nous semble excessif mais comme le petit déjeuner (de bonne qualité) était compris dans le prix de la chambre, on insistera pas trop...
