This was my first time in Gambia, so was unsure what to expect. I’m happy that I chose this hotel for my first Gambian experience. Upon arrival I was greeted with a warm welcome and complementary juice by the reception staff, while one of the staff showed me to my room. The room was nice and clean, situated right next to the beach. The room had a minibar, safe, and wifi which worked well. I could even pick up the wifi from the beach if I sat close enough to my room. I only went on the beach once, but was impressed by the fruit ladies who do a plate of fruit for less than £3, and a juice guy who makes juices even cheaper. As I was on B&B, I ate out most nights. I found One for the road and Mr Bass to be my favourites. Authentic Gambian food, and very cheap. Word of warning, be prepared to be hassled by the locals as soon as you step foot onto the beach or outside the hotel. I know they’re incredibly poor, and only trying to earn some money, but it does getting annoying. I would definitely advise anyone to visit the local crocodile pool, monkey park and Serekunda market. But take a local guide to help you get around safely. The reps opposite the hotel, wearing orange t shirts are your best bet. Don’t use a local who offers to take you. A visit to Calypso bar next door is an absolute must visit. If you go at 4pm, you can see the crocodiles in the pond being fed while you have a cocktail. I was also lucky enough to see Green monkeys, and a few monitor lizards whilst at Calypso. I will definitely go back to Gambia, and would highly recommend this hotel. Last but not least. The entertainment team are very good. Their enthusiasm is infectious at getting residents to dance with them, although they don’t pressurise you to join in if you prefer to sit and watch instead.
