Three Tree Hill Lodge

Three tree hill definitely is the place to be to get away from daily business. You are really off the grid in this resort. Close to a game parc this ecofriendly resort has been a highlight in our journey. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitality is their main driver. We stayed in one of the twin cottages with the remarkable view on the valley. Also the wine cellar has great wines on stock. Should you visit them don’t forget to take the sundowner and the dip in the plungepool.

A very nice lodge in an amazing place, surrounded by nature. There are lots of activities to do, and an incredible library where you can spend the whole day without getting bored. The food was delicious, and the dessert was amazing. A great thing is that the lodge is eco-friendly. I’ll definitely recommend it! Thanks to the staff for their wonderful hospitality

Group of 8 from Western Australia. Home away from home is an overused expression, but it is truly applicable here, with wonderful service in addition. The facilities are very comfortable and interesting, the food is delicious and the owners and guides are very passionate, informed and generous with their time and energy. We could not recommend it more highly. Thank you for a memorable few days.

Fair Trade and responsible tourism practices exude throughout this remarkable family-run, farm-style luxury lodge. But it’s the absolutely lovely people that are the driving force behind the seamless and guest centric service. A must visit for nature lovers and/or those interested in South African history.

Gorgeous views of Spionkop and a few nearby trails for hiking where you can see wildlife roaming. I felt very welcomed from the moment I arrived up the long dirt and gravel road. Excellent service and food. I didn't get to use the pool but it looked nice as well. Each morning there was a personal table set up for breakfast and the staff cater to your every need. As a solo traveler I really enjoyed the communal dinner with other guests and having a host each evening to learn more about the country through their personal experiences and immersing myself in a different culture. The lodge had many paintings and relics from the Boer Wars that added a lot of atmosphere to the location. My guide for the battlefield Tony was remarkable; he is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the battle and made a somber, silent, place feel alive even 124 years after the fighting. The on site library was very unique and cool, I found myself spending hours in there reading after dark just fascinated by the history. I do wish there was a way to keep the rooms a little warmer at night in winter, the bed was comfortable and had plenty of blankets but the heater in the room didn't seem to do much of anything.

Stopped over for one night, but this is not enough to really experience all that Three Tree Hill has to offer. It is in an amazing location. The staff really offer a fantastic homely welcome, and the food created by their kitchen staff is delicious to taste and beautifully presented. The cooked breakfast certainly out did what was offered at other places we had stayed. The cottage has rustic charm, and the provision of a hot water bottle and thick blankets gave us a superb night's sleep through a surprising mountain thunderstorm. It is a treasure trove of information relating to the Boer War, along with a great library. But if this isn't your bag there are plenty of other activities on offer. The location sits alongside the beautiful Spieonkop Nature Reserve.It is certainly on our return to list. Thanks for a fantastic stay.

We were blown away by Three Tree Hill...it has the most amazing setting & the attention to detail in the decor/building is outstanding. Everything is so well thought out from delicious meals that were beautifully presented, the gorgeous wine cellar, Molly's library, the lounge area with very interesting artifacts, our beautiful cottage with swimming pool & viewing deck. The kids meals were amazing...perfect portion sizes & presented in a fun way...octopus shaped pizza was the best! It's the perfect spot to just relax & catch your breath, take a stroll through the acacacia veld (various grades & lenths), paddle in the stream, take a morning game walk with informative guide...and so much more. We will be back!

We were luck enough to stay in Burchell's cottage which is perfectly appointed for a family of 6 (we were only two). The view from the outside deck is glorious especially late faternoon and very early morning - a real joy. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there - the food was absolutely delicious and served by attentive friendly staff. Cheryl (& Simon who was not there) have created a wonderful team of people. Cheryl is just lovely, friendly, chatty and so helpful, it's easy to understand why the staff are so good. The resident Historian, Pierre, gave us an excellent history talk the evening before our trip to the Spioen Kop battle field to prepare us for the next day's expedition. The next day we went up to Spioen Kop which was really great . I'm personally not wild about endless military manoeuvers but in Pierre's telling, it was alive with people's characters and rich detail - really fabulous. The Molly Blackburn Memorial Library is definitely worth a few hours of your time (if you like books!) - a wonderful selection of history books - Natal, South Africa and International as well as a great clippings file on the remarkable Mollly Blackburn - i wish i had been able to read more of it. There is also a large selection of novels for holiday reading.

We had an incredibly wonderful time at Three Tree Hill. It was our first visit to the lodge, and we were absolutely thrilled. There was nothing that could have been better. The lodge is very authentic and comfortably furnished. The rooms are spacious with a terrace overlooking the Spioenkop Nature Reserve. We were fortunate to see rhinos from the terrace upon our arrival. The lodge features a large dining room adorned with numerous artworks and antiques, along with a library and a wine cellar that is worth exploring. Simon, Cheryl, and the entire team—special thanks to Melanie for making our stay even more memorable—are incredibly warm, and you truly feel more than welcome. We also appreciate the evening gatherings with other guests for sundowners by the campfire and shared dinners at a large table. It was a unique and delightful experience. The food was outstanding, prepared fresh and exceptionally delicious. We found it thoughtful that guests could borrow binoculars. We joined a bush walk with Simon, an experience not to be missed, where we were lucky to witness rhinos, giraffes, and zebras up close—a dream come true. It's worth mentioning the team's kindness in washing our car before departure, a gesture we found truly attentive. As mentioned, we can't imagine a better accommodation and were more than satisfied. 5 stars plus. Thank you for the unforgettable time! Kevin Hengfoss & Gabriele Rudolph
