Atlantic Inn

Five members of our family recently enjoyed a Monday thru Friday week staying in the Veranda Suite at the Atlantic. The suite had a small well equipped kitchen, which we did use for one or two simple meals. There is a living/dining room combo, quite comfortable and spacious. There are two bedrooms with cozy bedding and views from every window. Everyone slept well every night, some of us even slept in until roused by coffee brought from the always ready coffee bar in the hotel proper. There is an additional sofa bed though we didn't utilize it. The large bathroom is well stocked with essential bath products, soaps, shampoos and a large pile of fluffy towels. The shower has two shower heads and easily fits two people, while you're getting wet from the back and front simultaneously. The Veranda Suite is a bit behind the main hotel, quiet and serene. We all enjoyed a wonderful gourmet dinner on the porch with exceptional wine and my granddaughter made sure to get a cookie very day from the lobby. The family spent quite a bit of time on the suite's wide porch with rockers, couches, tables and chairs, it'd be a great place to have a cocktail party, easily has room for twenty or so. And the view is postcard worthy. The hotel itself is a five or six minute walk from the village stores, shops and restaurants and more importantly, the ferry. There's a farm just a bit down the hill that my granddaughter insisted we visit every day to feed the camels, llamas, goats and kangaroos. Lots of hiking around the island that some of the family took advantage of. It was our first experience on Block Island and everyone wants to return for the mopeds, the banana boat ride and Crescent Beach.

Despite reserving an outside table, we arrived to find the area fully exposed to the burning sun with no shade whatsoever which after a day in the sun at the beach is not comfortable. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant, making it impossible to enjoy a meal so we left as the host with a smug attitude responded he would eat in the sun. The lack of adequate outdoor accommodations shows a significant oversight in customer care and comfort. Given the high expectations set by their reputation, this experience was a major letdown. Thank you to the new owners for renovating the island gem. My family of eight had an wonderful experiencing dining at the Atlantic last week. We love the changes made to the interior dining space and the bar. The entire staff were great but I have to say that our server Kelly was outstanding. The new menu is great and our meal from 1st course to dessert was a ten on a scale of 1-10. We LOVED our meal and our experience at the AI. Can't wait until next summer.
