What a GREAT autumn getaway to Blue Hill, Maine. Barncastle Hotel & Restaurant couldn't have been better. I arrived in a torrential downpour to welcoming hosts, a warm & cozy guest room and, delicious soul soothing cuisine. The new owners, Lizzie & Owen, went above and beyond. The highlight of the weekend was definitely the food. The menu, quality and presentation of the meals was like being in a high end restaurant in NYC. I am still dreaming about the Smoked Squash Soup topped with crab meat and spiced pepitas. So good!! Lizzie helped me select the perfect red wine to bring upstairs and enjoy in my room. The area is gorgeous with lots of hiking and amazing views from the top of Blue Hill Mountain. Only an hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, I took a day trip there, had lunch and explored. Thanks for the memorable visit!! Looking forward to the next time!

What a refreshing take on a Maine B&B! First of all, you can't MISS the building from the road--literally the combo of a barn and a castle, such cool architecture. I only went to try the restaurant, not the hotel itself, but what a perfect little escape. My partner and I loved the chef's take on Alsatian food--we've never been to France, but we were definitely transported to a new place! As residents of the area, it was so cool to see a different type of cuisine represented in Maine. Lizzie & Owen, the new owners, are too sweet for words--we cannot wait to go back!

Nice historic place. However, at the bar, after the Surly owner poured and handed me a glass of wine and she said to me in a loud voice in front of other customers: "Would you like to leave a gratuity for the bartender, or...?" (Which I fully intended to do) Very unprofessional and embarrassing for us both.

Just a fine, friendly, quiet and spacious inn Great personal service by the owner operators. A welcome respite In the busy mid coast summer tourist region. Great pub food/bar And attentive service despite the lack of help so typical of conditions in the hospitality business today.Mike W

All my experiences with our stay here were outstanding. I booked suite two and it was lovely. I needed to call several times before my arrival and always had a great, helpful call. Check-in was smooth and we met Issac, one of the owners. He was cordial and told us some about the property. We stopped at the bar and had several drinks with Issac as our server. He was attentive and always told us how to reach him if he stepped away. It was a great night's sleep but we awoke a bit earlier than planned with the sunlight streaming in. I recommend closing their curtains before bed! The shower was fine as was the speed of the Wifi. Our continental breakfast was perfect for what we needed. There is a commercial toaster with bread and bagels, fruits, juices, yogurts and more. The coffee was strong and hot. We’d arrived at night so were surprised to find the beautiful grounds in the morning. It would have been nice to lounge in one of their seating areas. I look forward to my next stay!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The turret room was just wonderful. Sooo spacious and comfortable. Best sleep I've had in years. Super soft sheets on a delightful bed. Continental breakfast in the library was more than adequate. Owners were very nice. Highly recommend!

We spent two nights in this quaint inn. Staff was very friendly and we had a lovely chat with the breakfast attendant/housekeeper who added some history of the Inn. We were disappointed that the tavern/restaurant was not open over the weekend during our stay. The rooms were unique, clean, and very comfortable. If you are looking for modern decor this is not for you. Our room only had a shower but that was what we use anyway. There is no elevator or handicap accessibility to rooms so this must be taken into account. As you can see from the picture of the beautiful staircase, the climb could be a challenge for some.
