We've been regular customers at Cherie Boutique Hotel - now called Villa Cornelia - for the past 3 years. It was a nice stop-over in Bucharest, with an intimate feeling, cosy rooms and amazing breakfast. We're not very picky and conditions have somehow worsened in the last 12 months (with the pandemic and such) - but this October it seems like the venue has reached rock bottom. We booked room no. 9 for 2 adults & 2 kids, with breakfast - as usual. Getting here, we found out that only the adults made it in the actual reservations. Then, check-in is supposed to start at 14:00. We asked for our room at 20:00 - the kids' bed wasn't made, no sheets, no pillow. It took one hour to receive everything, in small deliveries. And the pillow looked like it was kidnapped and forced into its cover. The room itself is falling on itself, with signs of decay everywhere: stained walls, broken garbage bin, ripped phone chord, the shower cabin barely holding on to its door - and the bathroom smelling badly. The breakfast was the final blow. We had to negotiate with the cook (?!) to have it included in the price of the room - as we initially booked it, a month before. But they changed their policy in the meantime and did not tell us about it. This out of the way, we discovered that the menu turned into cheap dishes (read: omelette and nothing else, really) sold for good money. Gone were the pancakes with chocolate and plenty of bananas and strawberries - accompanied by a glass of freshly squeezes orange juice... And to really close the deal, they ran out of bread. I hate negativism and leaving bad reviews. But this has turned into a mockery of a hotel, run by a skeleton and poorly trained staff. It's no longer worth the money or the nerves. It's sad to move away, but it is what it is.
