Hotel Saint Etienne

The room was quaint, the staff wonderful. Great location, easy walking distance to everything.

This is a very basic place to stay for a night, with some late night grocer- shops close at hand.It reminded me of the sort of place where Maigret would have visited to interview a witness to some felony. It could be used in a period drama.

The staff was really helpful, they have an amazing location and I liked the bedroom. No problem at all with the stairs, it’s an old hotel and has its charm. They let you have the breakfast on their breakfast table or on Your room, Which it was really Nice si ce We wanted To stay in bed a little longer on the second day

Hotel Sainte Etienne is a lovely place to stay in a great location, about half an hour walk from the train station. Beverly was very welcoming and kind and helpful. The hotel rooms are very clean and very well presented, with a lovely decor. Very comfortable and warm. A great base from which to explore Caen. We would definitely stay here again if we ever came back to this wonderful city.

A super-cute little hotel right on the edge of historic Caen. If Richard Curtis ever did a movie set in Normandy, you’d almost certainly end up bumping into Hugh Grant on the stairs here!

We made a last minute reservation on *********** in Caen and were looking for a hotel downtown that could sleep four and was affordable and we found Hotel Saint-Etienne was a good choice. We had also included in our search "parking" since we were driving back to Paris and the Booking listing said they had parking. Unfortunately it is street parking and like most cities it was impossible to find street parking which was frustrating. The hotel is in a great location downtown close to restaurants and cafes. The room we had opened out onto the street but it's in an old building which was adapted to a hotel so probably all the rooms are unique. The rooms were a bit dated but did the job for our family. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is perfectly located for the top sites (Abbaye aux Hommes, Town Hall, churches) and you really know that you are in Normandy here. Lovely warm croissants, coffee, bread, ham and cheese for breakfast. Nice walks around the surrounding streets with local bakeries, restaurants and bars.

Due to my work I'm used to travel and stay in hotels. Sometimes, i may feel disillusioned but never as far as during my stay in this room ! Chamber n°9. 08 PM. I wanted to have a shower and then I noticed there was only hot water available (there are 2 old separate taps for hot / cold). The second one for cold water didn't provide any water at all. I went down to the desk. The desk was already officially closed... I met a guy who asked me If I had turned the tap the right way (call me stupide, dude !). He said he couldn't nothing at all as every room was booked. He just proposed me to have a shower from 10/00 AM the next day, once people have left their room ! In the morning, when I went down for breakfast I asked for the manager. Who is he ? Where is he ? Does he work somtimes in his hotel ? I never met him... The woman in charge of the breakfast and cjheck-out was informed of my problem. She simply told me she couldn't do anything else that letting me have a shower in the next room the occupier had just left ! At no time nor the guy nor the woman even went to see in my room if they could solve the problem or simply check it was really broken ! It sounds like the staff absolutely doesn’t care about the customers. Moreover I have to say the cleaning under the toilet seat was .... undone since a very long time. Thus, I paid the full price for a stay in a crappy location. At no time I met the manager and I didn't have any discount on my bil. Shame on St Etienne Hotel, a place you'd better avoid to stay in. Well located within walking distance to the center with many bars and restaurants. WLAN in the room not working. Room and bathroom tiny. Very small bed. A bit run down with renovations needed (especially in the stairwell).
