After seeing the rooms advertised on the hotel website, we booked in early January, & specifically asked for “a beautiful one with lake view” for 3 nights. It was for the special occasion of our 42nd Wedding Anniversary. The hotel is in a good location & the old building itself was lovely. But when we were shown to our room it was dark, and very plain - nothing like the photos of the other rooms on the website with their ornate ceilings, antique furniture, lovely colours and quirky details. But the biggest disappointment was the view: it looked out over rooftops and tv aerials of the backstreets, & there was only the tiniest glimpse of the lake. We asked for a nicer room with a proper lake view but were told by the receptionist that they were already booked. After much pushing, she showed us 2 other rooms which were tiny and even darker, and which looked out onto the brick wall across the street. We declined these. The receptionist called the owner (who didn’t speak English) who then arrived out of breath, and confirmed no sorry there was nothing else. They claimed that they had sent us an email saying there were no lake view rooms available, but that they would “try” - but we never received that or we would have cancelled the booking, because a proper view of the lake was most important to us. We were so upset at their attitude that we decided not to stay there at all, and having eventually found another hotel nearby (after a lot of stress & extra expense, as it was such short notice) told the receptionist and owner that we were leaving as we had not been given the room we had requested, & what could we negotiate by way of a partial refund? The owner very rudely and bluntly just shrugged & said through the receptionist “nothing”. We were quite taken aback at her attitude: she didn’t care that we were upset; she didn’t care that it was our Anniversary, and there was absolutely no attempt to offer even €1 as a gesture of apology. We left our phone number and asked her to consider the matter, and to ring us tomorrow, but she said “the answer will be the same.” The receptionist started to say “perhaps if you come back another time we can see what we could do….” But the owner stopped her. I would NEVER go back to that hotel in a million years, and I would advise anyone who books expecting to get one of the lovely rooms on the website to be very careful, in case they get ripped off too.
