Greenland House

Very comfortable night spent in this attractive period property . The owner was very friendly and helpful - especially as I had accidentally booked the following night and turned up a night earlier ! - he was able to accommodate us and change our booking without any fuss . We were also offered space in a secure garage for our electric bikes though we were very comfortable with the hotel’s off road car park The room was spacious and a perfect temperature. Breakfast had a good choice of cooked and cereal . Our host was helpful in pointing us towards eating out in Castleton and Thurso - we chose the Castletown hotel , there are also 2 take aways in the village. The hotel is well placed for Dunnet Bay a short distance away . Would definitely recommend this hotel as a stop in the area

Greenland House is the unexpected jewel in an otherwise dreary Castletown stop. Surrounded by what looks like council housing, it appears suddenly, appeasing a rising fear that you made an incredible mistake with this booking. Nothing could be further from the truth. Greenland is a stately home, with 15 foot ceilings everywhere and spruced up to provide all the comfort you could want. The pictures speak for themselves. From the ample parking area to the cavernous rooms and stately staircases, it was all there. We had a lovely breakfast the next morning and a lovely chat with some fellow guests. It all felt very distinguished and pleasurable.

This is a lovely family run bed and breakfast. The room was very comfortable with plently of room. There was a great choice for breakfast, both cooked and continental, plus all the cereals, breads and fruit. Victoria was a lovely host and helpful with information. There is a lovely sitting room for guests to use.

This was a nicely decorated bed and breakfast and we had a warm welcome. Our room was quite small and we felt like we ran out of space somewhat once we had brought our small suitcases in. There was very little surface space to place our things such as a cup of tea, glass of water, glasses, phone and charger etc. That said, the room was super clean and cosy and the bed was comfy. We had a room that did not have an en suite bathroom, but we had exclusive use of the bathroom just next door off the main landing. This was a great sized bathroom and really nicely decorated. We also had a sink in our room which made things a bit easier. The breakfast was a bit rubbish. The continental option was strange and we didn't eat any of it. Our suggestion would be a fruit salad with the cereals.

We were in room # 6 at Greenland House. The room had a queen and a twin bed. They had an armoire in the room for clothing. The only place to sit was in one desk chair. The beds were very comfortable. However, there was an odor from the bathroom which we were told was worse during the hot weather. We ended up getting air fresheners for the room. Wi Fi was good and parking available. We had a full English breakfast in the breakfast room which was nicely decorated. The food was very good. You ordered the night before for the next morning and also picked a time for breakfast. Victoria, the owner, was very pleasant and accommodating. They had only owned the B&B for six months and were planning to do some needed work on it during the winter. Castletown has very limited places to eat and we went into Thurso for our evening meals. We enjoyed our stay at the Greenland House, but it does need some refreshening.

Pluses: spotlessly clean room, nicely and tastefully done with lovely guest lounge. Comfy bed. Slept well. Minus: the breakfast - cold hard toast, choice of rice crispies or cornflakes, scrambled egg that had been around for a while, lukewarm tea (no choice of tea type). There was a fresh white morning roll and a warm (Tesco and not the finest) croissant which were the best parts. Porridge and poached eggs weren’t available (only fried or scrambled). The addition of yoghurt, muesli, herbal tea and some nice bread would have made a huge difference. Just our opinion.

Andrew was very welcoming. The room was spotless and had everything we needed. Our bathroom had a lovely large bath! Breakfast was delicious and there were lots of choice. Plenty of car parking and some lovely places to eat nearby. The lounge area was a nice touch

We really enjoyed our stay here on our recent NC500 trip. Andrew was really welcoming and managed to accommodate us at short notice. The property has been beautifully restored. Our room was so comfortable, lovely bathroom and so cosy. Beautiful breakfast the following day and even GF cereal provided which was the only place in Scotland that did this…A fabulous place to stay!!

This accommodation was excellent. The rooms were in keeping with the property but modern as well. The breakfast was excellent and the plates were hot. The proprietor was welcoming and informative. Would definitely recommend.
