Champagne Castle Hotel

The best hotel in the Drakensberg. Very good food and very friendly staff. We stayed in a few more hotels in the Drakensberg during our journey, but your menus are the best. We stayed in a mountain view room which was fabulous. Very comfortable bed and clean room.

Even though we were only able to be there for 1 night , we had the most wonderful day/night. Wonderful friendly staff that always make you feel so welcome, great food ( as always), the views are just to die for ( my soul is in those mountains) and as always ,that relaxed feeling from when you drive in the gate. Can't wait to be back to our " Sense of Place" , our home away from home .

The place is very beautiful and the staff treatment was exceptional. Definitely we will be coming back soon with our family. We were even offered lunch packs on the check out day. If you wants to go relax or destress, Champagne castle is the place to be.

We've been going to Champagne Castle hotel since my childhood days. My parents went there for their honeymoon, we then went there growing up and my husband and I got to celebrate our three year annivarsary there over the weekend. It's such a special place. We had an amazing time and were warmly welcomed with Champagne, chocolate and a "specially set dinner table" to celebrate our special anniversary. The location is exceptional with a variety of hikes and views that take your breath away. The food was exceptional and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a great place to relax, especially if you love nature and a place with an old school charm as morning and afternoon tea are a part of the day.

The views are breathtaking and there’s good access to hikes in the area. Unfortunately we chose to stay at the self catering chalet which meant that we had nice facilities and a great view but there’s limitations on what’s included which was not mentioned prior to arrival. The tea time is only for hotel guests so you have to order if you want anything. The buffet is not always able to accommodate if the hotel is full. They did make a plan to squeeze us in on the day we arrived but the food was nothing to rave about. This might have been because they were incredibly busy though because they are usually better. The cleaning service only washes breakfast dishes and ask that you wait outside while they clean. The second bedroom had bugs on the bed and wasn’t very clean on arrival. There was only one oil heater so you have to choose who gets to be warm on cold nights. Overall, I regret choosing Self catering as it just wasn’t worth it. The hotel experience is better as I have stayed there before and had no issues.

We have been going to Champagne Castle Hotel since 1970 but not on a yearly basis. The last visit was with my family on occasion of my 80th birthday and my daughter's 46. We could not have chosen a better venue. Lovely weather, spectacular views and superb meals. The rooms were clean with a lovely view of the Berg and the staff friendly and helpful. I can go back any time, just say the word.

We had a nice few days here. The weather was glorious, the views spectacular, the food very good however the family feel that one gets from similar resorts like the Cavern is definitely missing. I cannot fault the hotel on anything else, but having spent 15 or 20 odd years visiting the Berg resorts, mostly Cavern and Cathedral Peak, the lack of interest in the hotel guests is very felt. The dining staff were great but front of house ie reception was cool and reserved. My daughter and I hiked one of the big 5, they were unable to guide us so we went alone. We called to say we were way behind schedule and would be walking in the dark. Granted, we were not injured, but no one asked after our well being when we came in. We both felt we could have disappeared off the face of the earth and I don't know if they would have cared. The shop is uninteresting, the staff bored stiff. The spa staff were pleasant and the service good but it lacked that 'spa' vibe.

The entire place needs a revamp - everything is looking extremely old and tatty (especially the furniture in the lounges/bar). We have been to Champagne Castle many times but will not be going back any time soon. The food was disappointing, flavourless and bland, the service was shocking - we spent three nights there. Night one: Ordered a bottle of popular SA wine - out of stock. "We will have it tomorrow, sir" - tomorrow we were told "out of stock" again. On our third night we managed to get the wine we wanted. The morning and afternoon teas lacked imagination and the synthetic cream to go with the dismal scones was aweful! Such a pity, because they have one of the best locations in the Berg.

WoW ... Champagne Castle Hotel. One of the BEST holidays spent in the Berg. Amazing Hotel with excellent facilities, meals, cocktails, rooms, beds, bathroom, things to do, entertainment, walks, playing bowls, games, bingo, karaoke, just relaxing at the poolside, etc.. Beautiful big & clean pool but was a bit too cold to swim. However, what really & truly made our holiday extra special was the awesome Management & Staff. They were just so helpful, friendly & accommodating to ensure that they met our needs and meal requirements. I give this hotel a 10 out of 10 and will definitely go back for more holidays (both in the summer & winter...).
