I booked the honeymoon suite (room 6) about a year in advance because I was on tour with my choir and singing at the cathedral. I had to have two phone calls in order to pay because my booking was accepted based on my AMEX details but, as arrival drew near, it turned out they don;t take AMEX. Tamsin's telephone manner is exemplary and she took my payment over the phone and also agreed to do her best to make my room cool becasue the forecast was for a one-day heatwave on my arrival date. On arrival the welcome could not have been warmer from Tamsin and then Anne, the owner. As this is a listed building , any air conditioning has to be mobile units. Tamsin and Anne helpfully brought me the unit and we got it working perfectly and my huge room soon cooled down. That evening I sat with the owners Anne and Georg and had a very nice glass of wine , chatted a bit in German and was made to feel very much at home. My room was splendid, with a 4-poster bed and jacuzzi bath with exciting lighting. I had many baths while I stayed my 3 nights. Staying at this hotel you benefit from feeling you are in a very special listed building with a delightful garden . The decor in the room was beautiful and classical and, in my room at least, it was very quiet indeed. I was singing at the Cathedral each day and it's only 10 minutes' walk, which was very handy for me. I very much enjoyed my breakfasts and the lovely chef John even gave me a poached egg tutorial in the kitchen one morning ...and I have just made them at home using his method. I heartily recommend this hotel. The owners make you feel welcome and they will chat to you . So if you don't want a personalised and special feeling at a hotel, stay somewhere else !
