Au Relais Saint Maurice

We stayed two nights for visiting chateaus by the Loire River. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, this was our first bed and breakfast experience. The place is tastefully furnished by mostly antique. Maurice is a great host, caring, cheerful, and detail oriented. Not only he helped us with our luggage but also made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Our room was on the top floor, the Agnes’ room, named after Agnes Sorel, a mistress of King Charles VII, art model who once lived there. The house was from 14th century, Maurice purchased it in 2015 and renovated it. He has done it very well. Our room was much larger than the ones we had in Paris, a tapestry and a portrait of a woman from medieval times decorated the walls. In addition to a coffee table set, there were an ottoman chair and two luggage chairs, a writing desk, a dresser, and closet cabinet. There were much more than ordinary supplies, such as an ice pillow, not to mention that coffee cups, a coffee maker, and wine glasses. We had a modern shower with good water pressure and water closet in the room, and a vanity table had abundant supplies. The bed was firm and comfortable. You would definitely feel the host’s hospitality, care, and love. I especially loved the windows on the roof. There were countless choices for breakfast: croissants, coffee, tea, crepes, milk, three fruit juices, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausage, hams, jams, peaches and grapes, and several cakes, yogurt and more…to our surprise, silver utensils and linens were used. Maurice poured coffee and hot milk for us. We used to help ourselves with coffee machines in Paris. His breakfast was indeed impressive and noteworthy. Merci, Maurice.

An absolute gem. The rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast is unbelievable and the host is an absolute treat. Great location. Complete luxury for a bargain price. Our only complaint is we only booked one night so looking to rectify that next year. Absolutely amazing place that puts all other b&bs I’ve stayed in to shame.

Of the 8 nights spent in France at 6 different hotels, this was by far the best room we stayed in. Room is very large and very well equipped, bed and pillows super comfortable, and large separate bathroom. Host is very friendly and breakfast selections are immense. Parking is right behind in a private garage. Would definitely stay again.

Superb, elegant boutique hotel Au Relais Saint Maurice is a treat for all of the senses. Besides being impeccably decorated, this sweet hotel offers tremendously comfortable rooms, a fabulous breakfast and a truly charming host. It’s location is ideal, too. And right across the street is one of the best restaurants we’ve experienced in our 8 years in France! We’ll return soon.

In short, I felt like a king. Maurice is the number 1 host going out of his way to spoil his guests. Room was like a fairytale. Breakfast stunning with incredible choice of food, from several pies, croissants, eggs, etc etc. When i arrived he did maximum to get me spot in his garage which wasnt reserved. The hotel is tastefully furnished with many antiques. Our room, Room of Agnes was on the 4th floor, Maurice, the owner of this property helped us carrying our luggage. The room was larger than expected and fully supplied from cotton swabs to bathrobes, a coffee maker, coffee cups with small cakes, much more than we needed. There were an ottoman and two luggage chairs which I found very useful. My husband an I drove from Mont Saint Michel and stayed there for two nights. Maurice gave us free parking during our stay, so we didn’t have trouble paying at the parking machine. Breakfast was plentiful: coffee, croissants, several cakes, crepes with jams, fruits, boiled eggs, hams, sausages, several fruit juices, cheese, and yogurt. This was much more than we had at previous hotels. I believe Maurice manages very well, cooking, concierging, cleaning. He was a great host.

Once again - a wonderful experience. This is our second visit to Relais Saint Maurice and we cannot recommend it enough. M. Maurice is an exceptional host and the bedrooms and public areas are excellent - as is the breakfast.

What a beautiful place to stay!!! This B&B is so charming, so authentic, such a great place to stay and Chinon was my favorite town in the Loire Valley. It is in a great location and the rooms are so lovely! Maurice who runs this B&B is fabulous, he goes over and above to make his guests happy. He helped us out when needed, thank you again! I should also mention the amazing delicious breakfast he does each morning, wow, superb!!! We had never been to this beautiful town before and had never met Maurice, but we will certainly go back and choose Au Relais Saint Maurice as our home away from home!

What a fantastic place to stay. The house is beautiful, the room was lovely and very comfortable and with option of garage parking, kept the car cool and safe. Breakfasts were just suburb, so so much effort ever day we were there (3 nights). Lots of lovely little small touches make the experience here great. Maurice could not have been more helpful with recommendations and places to visit. Must try the restaurant across the street if staying here as that superb also! There is now no other place I would say in Chinon… we loved it.
