Avoid the peak of Qingming Festival, and go to Chengde with a good friend last Sunday. After comparing several hotels, I finally prefer Xilaijia: 1. Convenient parking, free ground parking; 2. If you drive, navigate to the underground parking lot of the Mountain Resort (maximum charge is RMB 50 per day). You can park your car in Area C. There is a staircase for pedestrians to go up and down, which is closest to the B&B (100 meters).

Being a part of Chengde Imperial Mountain Resort, the hotel is one of Emperor Qianlong's 36 scenic spots of Chengde (#6). The hotel itself has a lot of historical value, not only the building but the garden areas. The tree in the middle of the compound is 300 years old and has been here since the beginning. Pro: location is one of the best if you're looking to visit Chengde Imperial Mountain Resort (500m away from the front gate), the rooms & beds are clean and comfortable. Con: one downside is that the breakfast buffet area, the facilities are dated and the breakfast options are geared towards more Chinese style breakfast, no Western continental breakfast here so come prepared.

My experience was overall good, but the bathroom of the room I booked for the first night (single, queen bed) was so stinky at night that I could not bear it. Cons: - There was a gecko coming out from the tent in our parent child room. It went under the bed and we couldn't find it. The first night, I couldn't sleep because of afraid it would come to us. When we searched the gecko, we saw plastic and bottle under the bed. I guess they don't clean the room properly. Conclusion : Overall this hotel is good for us during our Chengde trip. We're happy.
