We booked a room an hour before getting there, but I forgot to tell them that I had a broken leg. This beautiful Spanish missionary style inn is set terracing down a hill across from the beach. We quickly realized I was not gonna be able to walk the flights of stairs to get to my room. So they accommodated me with an even more beautiful king size room with a sunroom overlooking the beach. That was a lovely surprise.

Five stars! From the moment we walked in -- and the front desk team poured us wine and lemonade and gave our children seeds to plant in the garden -- we knew we would love this hotel. The pool was beautiful and warm, even in February. Our kids loved playing bocce ball on the lawn. Our valley villa suite was huge and comfortable, with a fireplace on the balcony. And the whole stay was full of surprises and delights -- a complimentary mini bar with cheese, crackers and wine; plush striped towels by the pool; bottles of water at the valet; toffee chocolates at turn-down. Everyone was so warm and welcoming; we felt like we were staying with family. My children are already begging to come back, and my little one cried when we left. When you book hotels online, it's always hard to tell what the vibe is (will it feel suburban and bland? or cheesy and scene-y? or magical and fun?) -- and I can reassure you, Bernardus is the kind of wonderful, magical place you will love and want to return to for years. xoxo

The environment, location, facilities, including the front desk service are very good, especially the environment, but today's dinner experience is really disappointing. The location is superior to Carmel and Monterey attractions by car for 5-10 minutes. The hotel is located by the golf course and the environment is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and clean, the front desk is good, and it is a good shop.
