Cley Windmill

We recently hired the mill out for our wedding. I can only give them my highest recommendations. All of the guests slept well in the comfortable rooms, the staff are amazing and accommodated everyone’s needs. The new onsite catering offered a fantastic breakfast and the evening meal they provided was beyond expectations. All of the guests were extremely happy with the time they spent there.

We have been looking for a reliable and good quality place in North Norfolk for years and finally found one in The Cley Windmill. It is what it seems - a very old Windmill converted into a hotel with some additional cottages. The main rooms are in the tower and mainly look out over the salt marsh to the coast. We were in the Wheat Chamber in the first floor and it is a great dual aspect room. Compact, but more than spacious enough for a one week stay. Everything you want is there, Tea, coffee, good wi fi, bottled water replenished every day, a comfortable bed and good storage space. The bathroom is efficient with good quality toiletries. The only marginal issue is that being in a very old building, the floors are a bit slopey in places but its not an issue One window looks out to the sea - we had marsh harriers and bar owls cruising past regularly - and the other looks towards Wiveton. The coast path is literally running through the car park and it's about 20 minutes to walk to Cley NNR and an hour to Blakeney. In Cley itself the George and Dragon pub/restaurant is literally across the road, plus the other deli/smokeries in town. Breakfast is excellent and the staff friendly, courteous and efficient. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service , friendly staff and very lovely unpretentious food of excellent quality. A beautiful setting with a great view of the sunset as we were lucky enough to have the window seat. Love the idea of the set menu as it makes for a different experience . We’re all guilty of playing safe and always choosing the same thing when we eat out so refreshing not to have a choice and try different things.

Booked 2 night stay as a surprise for my husband. A great place to stay, really comfortable with lovely staff - nothing is too much trouble. Room was lovely, bed really comfortable and the view from the balcony was worth climbing the stairs for - we watched a kestrel catch it’s tea while up there. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of options and variety. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room with fresh milk in the fridge instead of usual UHT milk which was nice. A lovely stay in a unique location.

Wonderful and peaceful. Well appointed accommodation in a truly magical location on the Norfolk coast and marshes . Excellent breakfast. The staff were very friendly polite and helpful . A walk across the marsh led us to the sea and seals on the beach . Magnificent bird watching territory. A good spot for touring the countryside around

We stayed in the dog friendly boathouse room. The best bed I’ve ever slept in. So comfy I couldn’t wait to get in it. Perfect temperature and lovely to look out at all the Christmas lights in the courtyard. Doggie was very well looked after with her own welcome pack and treated by the staff in the bar. Breakfasts are fabulous. Very fresh and made with local produce where possible. The area is just beautiful, so peaceful. Lots of fascinating history, amazing wildlife on the doorstep or a short drive away. The staff were all lovely. Nothing too much trouble. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked a week in the self catering cottage.

We had the most wonderful ceremony at The Windmill - it exceeded our expectations! The team were just great to work with. Nothing was too much bother. They made the planning so easy. With regular email contact and face to face visits to ensure we were all well informed. The execution on the day was very slick and professional. All done quietly and without fuss, leaving us to thoroughly enjoy our day. A special thanks to Hayley who was our main event planning team member. She was fun to work with and communications were great. Having met all of the team, I think you can be confident that whoever you work with - you will always get the same level of service. An amazing and quirky hotel that provides a very different experience, great breakfast, lovely comfortable rooms and a little bar for a drink if you need one. From many rooms you can look out across the marshes and see the sea level rise in the creaks

We had a great weekend at Cley Windmill. First of all - this is not a modern 5* hotel - it is a 200 year old listed building so approach it expecting some quirks. And there are many! We stayed in both the Boathouse and Stone rooms. Both were lovely and the beds were very comfortable. We loved the fact that there was fresh milk in the fridges rather that UHT. Breakfast was just about the best I've had. The option for fresh smoked fish was amazing - the haddock was cooked perfectly. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and made sure we were looked after. We will definitely go back. If you are thinking about going - do it!
