Dev Shree Deogarh

Dev Shree is the most relaxing and welcoming of places to be.For value, quality and service excellence it was overall the best place we stayed during our 3 week vacation in India. We are kicking ourselves for only booking in for two nights. The palatial property has magnificent views of a lake across a green lawn perfect for afternoon teas. A swimming pool a dawned by palm trees was perfect for our picnic lunch.Our hosts, the family join guests for all meals of the day and sundowners in the evening. The home cooking is authentic Rajasthani food blended with a hint of the Colonial past which made meals really interesting. At breakfast I had an omelette soufflé ( something only served at the Ritz or Claridges in London) We were there during Diwali and were treated to a firework display that lasted 80 minutes! Yoga classes, spa treatments , cookery demonstrations, train rides, evening safari rides and much more left us spoilt for choice. The villagers were so very welcoming. Thank you Dev Shree family + staff you are the reason we will return to India!

This is a non-hotel. Instead, you feel like a friend among friends since you live with the family, sharing meals and a precious time. Starting with the warmest welcome you can imagine and a service literally perfect at any moment. You may sit on the veranda watching birds on the lake at sunrise and enjoy conversation with the cultivated host family or other guests. Helpful personnel is at hand any time before you even think of needing something. On our trip to Rajasthan we stayed here for two nights. It was marvellous! We enjoyed a trip on a “toy train” through a beautiful mountain range, a most relaxing massage, a guided trip through the village and a Leopard safari to the desert at sunset.

I stayed for two nights on my India trip and in short it was wonderful. The room was very good and all the staff really nice. Even though I was travelling alone I never felt alone at this place. Dining with other guests and the family made me feel that this was one big family dinner, lots of discussions, same goes for lunch. Even at breakfast there was someone with me. I really felt at home and for the first time at a hotel (I´ve stayed in many) I did not want to leave. The sundowner was great and driving through the villages and countryside. Also the trainride. Not forgetting the wonderful Ayurveda massage that everyone should have. On the whole a wonderful experience and I can't praise this place to much.

I have just returned to Chile after spending 5 nights at Dev Shree. A most restful and wonderful experience. Set in beautiful sorroundings and hosted by a dear family.Excursions are available and evening drives and sunsets are not to be missed. Local cuisine is served and the chefs produce magnificent meals .An idilic swimming pool is set in the garden overlooking Ragho Sagar lake and provides an opportunity to watch local migratory birds. Walking distance from a charming village gives you a taste of rural Rajasthan.

My mum and I stayed here to break the journey between Jaipur and Udaipur. It was our most enjoyable stay of our whole India trip. The family were so welcoming and we felt like we were right at home. It was great to have a real family experience admist all the hotels. Thank you so much for opening your home to us. Our lake view safari will be laughed about for years!

Wonderful 3 night stay. This is basically a home stay as the family live in this beautiful ‘palace’. They were kind and welcoming and we so enjoyed having meals together and talking with the family and other guests - we certainly learnt a lot about Indian culture. Food and service were excellent. Our room was vast with the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in. Slept really well as it was so peaceful. Also really enjoyed the lovely swimming pool. Highly recommend for some peace and quiet in crazy India.

We’ve just left after 2 nights and wish we could have stayed a 3rd. From the moment we entered we were treated like family. The sons were utterly charming and kind, the mother so calm and wise, the father so knowledgeable about history - him and my husband had v long mealtimes together! And both grandmothers were so beautiful and generous hearted. Our first night we ate on our own with them on the roof terrace which they had lit beautifully. The conversation flowed and the food divine. Highlights were visiting the local school where we were welcomed with open arms - happy children and lovely teachers. My husband was having a massage by Mukesh (who is so helpful and goes out of his way to make you happy - he fixed my bad back) when o was called away on safari to see a leopard. The elder son then drove all the way back to collect my husband as he’d missed it. As it was no longer there he drive him further away to get a sighting. The village walk was fantastic, so friendly and we met the local teachers over chai masala. Mukesh was so eager to please. We’d love to come back and will recommend to all. Nothing is too much trouble and the go the extra mile.

During our Rajasthan round trip we stayed one night at the dev Shree Deogarh. Since it was off season, we were the only guests in the hotel. We enjoyed the stay very much and it was almost a pitty that we had to leave the next day to continue our round trip. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We felt very welcommed and not only as hotel guests but as private guests of the house. Everthing was taken care of perfectly. The food was very good, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast. We also had the opportunity to have dinner with the owner and his family in the garden, which was a very nice experience. It is a small but very nice and relaxing hotel. We loved relaxing the afternoon at the pool which is really very nice. I especially liked swimming and lying in the natural shadow created by the many palm trees surounding the pool. We also had a safary tour organized by the house. It was very interesting giving us good insights and impressions how people live in the surounding villages and we saw some nice wild animals, of course (even a leopard). All in all I can really recommend this Hotel to everyone and specially to tourist who like tranquil heritage hotels. Again, thanks to the hotel staff and the owner for making our stay very comfortable and a one of a kind experience!

The most delightful and peaceful stay. The family were absolutely charming and it felt like we were one of their friends, staying for the weekend. We went on a safari saw leopard and drank cocktails at sunset it the most beautiful setting. Make sure you take the train ride down the mountain. SS’s stories and knowledge of past and present India, alone are worth the visit.
