The hotel has a variety of bed type rooms with separate or non-independent washrooms, and rooms with separate washrooms have wash basins. The location is very good, the Auckland University campus and the city, train station, etc. can be reached on foot, the train station is a little far away, about 1.6 km. There is a simple breakfast sharing in the common area, coffee, hot chocolate and bread, instant noodles and more. No extra beds, children can rent a room in a family hotel, free parking. Although the room is a bit old, the whole building is very historical, and the landlord is very kind.

Personally, I am quite satisfied with the cost performance. Hotel people are kind. The room was rather spacious. It is the best location.

I picked this hotel because it was an ideal location for me and I was able to walk to where I needed to be each day, so I didn't need a rental car for 4 days! The rooms were warm, beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and tidy -definitely value for money and provided the basics. They can only fit so much into a room and provide the basics for what you're paying per night. The bar itself was great, loyal locals, typical pub food, and nice warm fire. I spent a few hours based in here doing my work and it was just fine. If you want all the bells and whistles, go somewhere else and pay more. Reviewers that knock these sort of places need to realistic about what to expect, or go and pay more and stay somewhere else.

Stayed here for 3 nights, first time here and I was suitably impressed. After having stayed at Beechwood, Distinction, Quest and many of the hotels in Dunedin I thought this one didn’t deserve to be overlooked - and I’m really glad I chose it. From the friendly ‘reception’ staff (a pleasantly untypical reception btw), the wonderful cafe staff and food where I dined twice to the beautiful design and layout of the hotel My room was amazing… spacious, modern, reasonably quiet and everything I needed was there (apart from a microwave but I can live without that). Once I figured out how to work the TV I was all set, I really wish more hotels allowed you to watch Netflix, YouTube etc on the TV! Even the coffee station was unique. I can’t wait to return next year, thank you!

We can not say anything about the service as we have never met this. When we arrived, our name with room number was on a blackboard, the key was in the door. Since we left the room until noon, the room was not made. Room facilities, location, parking, etc. are good, the window for daylight could be larger.

At this time of living, the hotel has no air conditioning, hot to burst, the room must open the door, do not open the steamer sultry... it will be better to open... the balcony is facing the garden, the garden is chasing and playing, listening and listening is clear, the balcony at night The relationship with the door open, the curtains can not be pulled, the wind can not enter, there are fear that the insects fly in, the hot heads are sleeping on the balcony... The door is driving the model car and listening clearly! It’s generally that Dunedin stayed in Christchurch the next day and basically didn’t sleep very much. Hotel location is OK, there is a botanical garden to feed the pigeons in 5 minutes, food is free to receive... Free parking!

Its in a good location, so easy to walk around town. Parking is good. The place was very clean. Unfortunately the bed was a queen and had seen better days. Quite uncomfortable if we're honest. We'd booked an extra large bed, which we expected to be a king size or two singles joined together. Probably should have asked for an upgrade in hindsight. Room was okay, the duvet was nice and warm, and the room temperature good. It was a bit noisy due to the road outside and some people noise, but that's not the properties fault. The water pressure in the bathroom sink was fantastic, but the shower was pretty lame. Overall it was just above average. We're probably just disappointed because we'd paid similar money somewhere else and this it was not nearly as good.

In the scenic area, you need to click on the iron gate when checking in, otherwise you will not be able to enter the scenic area. You can order dinner in the castle. It seems to be 90 New Zealand dollars per person.
The stable room where I live is in the attic on the second floor. There is enough space to store two boxes.
Breakfast is very good. It is English breakfast with buffet + set menu.
We didn’t finish the meal, so we took it away and went to Sandfly Bay for Chinese food.
Get up early and visit the gardens and castle. Staying here is equivalent to visiting the castle for free. It smells great.

GGuest UserThis is a hotel with character and charm. We stayed here as a couple for two nights and shared a beautiful room with a sparkling clean en-suite. The room had a classic old-fashioned fire place (non-working) and the fine touches that you associate with Georgian or Victorian manor houses. The hosts were welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. There are only a few rooms so you have the feel of staying in a wing of a private home. If we return to Dunedin we are definitely staying here. Great value, great location and great ambience.

We had a ground floor room but the wifi only worked outside in the carpark and not in our room. The location was excellent with a lovely cafe down the road. Turn left out of the driveway. New World was just around the corner.

NNimuliyouVery good location, quiet apartment, small and charming house. The facilities are convenient, the living room, kitchen and bedroom are separated, suitable for a family of three. For extra beds, you only need to set up a bed in the living room. The space is very spacious, although the kitchen is not suitable for Chinese cooking, simple breakfast, boiling and baking, and microwave heating are still acceptable. It's clean, the bedding is comfortable, and it's interesting to see the sea from the corner of the window. The room is very warm, so you don't have to worry about being cold. The bathing space is not big, but it's not cold either. The corner Italian restaurant is worth trying. The only small drawback is that the parking space is very crowded and SUVs tend to scratch the walls.

GGuest UserWe stayed 4 nights in the superior King room (Room 206) during the blizzard of Oct 2022. The room and bathroom were well-appointed and stunningly presented. It looks as good as advertised. The experience was excellent from check-in to check-out. Valet parking service was prompt and exceptional value - 30NZD a day feels like a steal. Service was attentive, responsive but not stuffy. Without intending to omit anyone, Romaine/Ramon(?) in The Press Club and Lianna(?) on the front desk were particularly easy to talk to. Of the 4 fine dining dinners we had in Dunedin, The Press Club at Fable was the stand out. It was well ahead of so-called ‘hatted’ restaurants like Moiety (don’t eat at Moiety, it’s terrible). The venison rack was a highlight.

GGuest UserAfter reading many reviews on this site and looking for somewhere with two bedrooms we booked here. We knew there was an older part and a renovated part so we paid a little more for the newer two bedroom room. We got free parking as we booked directly with the hotel and had breakfast there in the morning. The room was excellent - all new and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We went for a walk to the railway station and then to the Octogon all very close. The staff then helped us with a taxi to dinner. My nephew was unwell during the night and the staff left us say in the room a little while longer while he slept longer. They were very understanding and a great help. The only negative was the breakfast was a little dry as I think it had been sitting in the buffet for a while. It still tasted good and did the job of filling us up. We would stay and book this room again.

GGuest UserWe had another fabulous stay at Scenic Hotel Dunedin City. This hotel is centrally situated with everything in easy walking distance.. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and tidy with fabulous views. I highly recommend and would stay at Scenic Hotels in other regions.

The hotel is very dated, in most of it’s attributes, backpacker esk, I stayed for purpose of business and the room didn’t cater for my type of visitor, breakfast only, which wasn’t creative. Limited choose of hot food. Staff were very friendly, and advised I could walk down the very steep hill to the octagon and find restaurant there, or Ober Food delivered to the hotel. I did report to this 3 times. The bar wasn’t open. I wouldn’t stay here again unless I had a budget to stick too. Walk back up the hill is not one you’d like to take after eating your dinner. I am sure there are further hotels location near the centre of Dunedin. Not for me in the future😉

JJoG202Economy room was perfect for a night when visiting for graduation. Peter was great host, as was Jacqueline 2nd day. Clean and comfortable room, great shower. Nice and quiet on 2nd floor. Cooked breakfast in large stunning dining room was fantastic. Chef made me an omelette since I don't eat meat. Walking distance to most areas. Free parking across busy road

ZZongyouyangguang1970The hotel is full of old-fashioned Scottish style. The first floor is a bar, restaurant, and a casino. The front desk clerk is very funny. He often drinks and chats in the bar. He will come over if you need anything. The corridor and stairwell are full of old-fashioned style and very romantic. The room is not big, with old-fashioned doors and windows. There is free parking. It is in the city center, Bajiao Street, the old train station, and the oldest church are all within a 5-minute walk. There are two different national chain supermarkets, Countdown and New World, within a 10-minute walk.
