This little place was a complete gem.The rooms were immaculately clean and had everything you would want for your stay,even including biscuits,chocolate and sweets.The location is perfect to.Thank you to all the team especially Julie who is the jewel in the crown.

Great friendly staff, clean welcoming a**osphere and reasonable prices. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the team and they actively tried to help you get the best deals. Collector cards for drinks was a very welcome bonus. Definitely worth a visit.

After spending one night room only at the City Rooms I felt compelled to write this review. This establishment is a pub with bedrooms above on the first floor. Our party of six had two rooms reserved both of which have been recently renovated to a high standard. The penthouse suite sleeps four people and in addition has a fully equipped kitchen area comprising of sink, fridge, microwave, oven crockery, plus tea/coffee facilities. A single bed and a single sofa-bed are situated just off the kitchen area with the second room which is a double bed situated on the same floor. There is a shared bathroom, full bath with overhead shower and complimentary toiletries which was a really nice touch! Room 9 a double bedded room is down one flight of stairs and this room has also undergone a recent renovation, it also has an awesome bathroom with complimentary toiletries. This pub/hotel is centrally located so it may be a little noisy for those travellers looking for somewhere quiet to stay. After researching hotels in the same area the City Rooms became our first choice based on value for money. On behalf of my party I would like to say a big thank you to Gillian who made us feel very welcome and who couldn’t do enough for us. We will most certainly be returning.

1 night stay in the penthouse for lumiere weekend with friends. Fantastic accommodation close to everything. Gillian was wonderful and really helpful, Balloons and a birthday card were supplied in the room as it was my sisters birthday, really lovely and appreciated. Gillian went out of her way to make us feel welcome and explained everything to us on arrival, even got us into our room early. We stayed Friday night and weren't really bothered by too much noise, although ear plugs are provided as rooms are above the bar. The bar is great, good selection of drinks and they have a stamp card scheme, for residents it's buy 3 get 1 free. Live music on Friday night's, although unfortunately the singer wasn't able to attend due to parking issues with the lumiere event on. No breakfast option but lots of options close by, we went to chapters for breakfast which is a few minutes walk across the bridge(delicious) the room was more like a small apar**ent with a small kitchen with cooker/hob and fridge. Large double bedroom, single bed and sofa bed in living room. Bathroom with shower over bath, it was massive considering we were only expecting a room. Everything was spotless, no dishcloth though so couldn't wash our chips. Fantastic value for money and wouldn't hesitate to book again! Thank you to all at the city rooms!

Thanks for such a brilliant stay. You guys are the best in Durham. Anybody visiting Durham you need to go to The City Bar. You really are the best in town. For people like me working away from home it's decent to find such a warm welcome.

Stayed at this hotel for a two-night break in Durham with my partner. Staff were really welcoming & friendly. We had a double room with a ensuite which was clean & comfortable. Little extras like chocolates & sweets, tea, coffee and biscuits were appreciated. Enjoyed a few drinks in the bar downstairs too. Great location to explore Durham, only a short walk to the centre and train station. Would definitely stay here again if returning to Durham.

Smartly decorated and clean rooms. Easy walking distance to durham historic centre. Bar noise until closing time, but these are rooms above a pub, so it's expected. Parking on public pay and display on nearby streets.expect o pay about £5 per day. Plenty of nearby eateries, but no food available at three hotel.

Small, comfortable very clean room. Everything you need provided. Tea, Coffee, telly etc You are sleeping above a pub so don't expect peace and quiet during opening hours. If you can cope with that and you're looking for a clean, comfortable, good value place to get your head down then this place is for you. No breakfast in hotel but excellent breakfast rolls from bakery a couple of doors away.
