We booked two of these apartments on the top floor for my sisters 40th birthday and the first thing to say is if you don’t like climbing stairs then you won’t be too happy! It’s an old building so there’s no lift, so I’d say it’s more of a younger/ fit persons accommodation but the views are nice when you get up there. When the windows aren’t steamed up anyway! They look lighter, brighter and larger on the website but they were pleasant and nicely appointed with everything you’d need. Google Thermostat controlled Heating which was a nice feature. Location was also great, overlooking princes street so you’re right in the heart of it. Now for the not so great … the beds I though were a bit smaller than I would have liked, I prefer a superking or extra large spacious bed, which I appreciate some people wouldn’t need but these had thin cheap mattresses, not the deep squashy kind that are like sleeping on clouds! Needless to say I know my mattresses and this was firm and lack lustre! I was later told by one of the staff at destiny scotland that that’s personal preference and everyone likes a different firmness when it comes to bed, which I totally appreciate but it’s definitely something to bare in mind when you’re choosing this accommodation. Also the noise levels are nuts! We barely slept for traffic and Scottish revellers noise, at one point I thought the tram was coming through our room! Now I know it’s a listed building so there’s restrictions on windows but I’m sure there’s still things that could still be done to reduce sound. Needless to say you will definitely need earplugs to stay here! Again I was told by Destiny Scotland this was the price to pay for staying in a main location and there were quieter apartments they could recommend. I did write to them and they had an answer for everyone of my complaints - we have all experienced that kind of customer service. They offer no gestures of goodwill and just make you feel like your disappointment isn’t valued or heard. Just an answer for everything which is frustrating. Couldn’t care less. If you know you know! And Finally the parking… £20 for a car park space ‘just around the corner’ well that’s a stretch! It’s about 4 streets away, 5-7 min walk which isn’t too bad if it’s dry but with cases in the rain it was annoying. It was also one of the tightest car parks on earth! The entrance is narrow and difficult to navigate if you’re driving a 4x4 as you can’t get straight on, you have to manoeuvre the vehicle to get through, as it’s down a back lane. Reversing out wasn’t as bad but going in was hairy! My husband’s a good driver but if it had been me and my sis by ourselves we would have struggled. Again I fed this back and was told they’d had no previous complaints which I find very hard to believe. So all in all, would we stay here again?… that’s a hard no! Too much hassle for us. Not luxurious, comfortable or quiet enough for our tastes, but I think if you’re young and fit you’d probably love
