Home from our second visit to Poiano. We loved it. Yes it's steep both onsite and down to Garda but this was made very clear in advance. No there isn't a toaster in the apartment. Eat something different. There is a good local supermarket down the hill for supplies (D'Piu). We were half board and found all the staff to be excellent - polite and friendly. This was particularly true in the restaurant. We had no issues with the shuttle bus. Yes there is a wait at busy times but it's completely free and the stop in Garda has shade in the afternoon. The location is stunning. You won't get a better view from the terrace or restaurant. The pool is fab and the pool towels provided are large, immaculately clean and fluffy. Our apartment was clean and spacious. To be honest we weren't in it enough to need it cleaning during our stay. However towels were changed free of charge mid week during our 7 night holiday. We didn't request this - it was included. Breakfast and dinner were plentiful and delicious - just don't expect typical British food. You won't get it. It's Italy and a more European clientele/menu. No complaints from us. We'll definitely return.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Extremely clean. Cleaners cleaned our room every day. Other reviews i had read said the shuttle bus only holds 8 people and there are long ques and arguments. We found buses to be very regular and they had a numbering system so you knew your place in the que. Never waited longer than 10 mins for a bus. Staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The evening meals were 5 star. Really lovely. Lots of choice for breakfast. We weren't keen on the English breakfast option but there was enough other choice for that not to be a problem. It rained one day so we went in the spa which was absolutely gorgeous. Best spa i have ever been in. Clean and quiet and so relaxing. Lots of activities in the pool if you want them or if you don't you can just chill. Lots of sunbeds. Also ideal for kids as so many activities to do. Over all a fantastic hotel at a good price

Beautiful surroundings, great facilities BUT you have to pay for EVERYTHING and I mean everything. Apart from the gym and the outdoor pool. On our first night we chose to eat at the hotel restaurant. I wish I’d took more notice of the other reviews. It was €35 per adult and €17.50 per child. There was very little choice on the menu. 3 or 4 starters and same for mains. Kids had 1 starter and 1 main. Other people in the restaurant were going up for a buffet so we tried that but got told to sit down and order from this piece of paper. The food was mediocre, not very hot. We had gnocchi followed by veal chop and roast potatoes (no veg given). Kids got tortellini followed by fish fingers and chips. There was a salad buffet and dessert buffet you could choose from. Quite a small selection. At the end of the meal we were given the bill for 4 adults and 1 child. I had to argue the toss but it took about 30 mins to resolve. The staff were more focused on the large German party and the Italian men that came in after us. Must point out that we asked if the restaurant could provide pizzas for the kids as they were dying to try them in Italy. Nice we’d sat down we got told no it was a set menu. We had a great lunch the next day in Garda for €50 which included wine. Much cheaper option and the standard of good/service was better. There’s loads of restaurants in the town along the front and down the side streets. We had a drink in the piano bar afterwards. Wine was cheap at €2.50 a glass. Tried to use the indoor pool which is only available to families on a 1 hour time slot per day where an adult must pay €5 to go in even if they aren’t using the pool. Unless you are non English in our case! Another family came afterwards and was sent straight through. €20 for a 1 hour swim. Entrance was through the spa at the side going up to the main reception. The rooms are quite basic, only 1 mirror 🪞 n the bathroom for a family of 5 which is disappointing when you have 3 females trying to put make up on and trying to dry their hair. The kitchen area is behind the wooden doors. Very basic facilities. 4 gas rings, fridge, a microwave and a kettle. Glasses, cups and bowls etc were in a cupboard under the tv. The apartments are clean but you have to empty your rubbish and wash up before you leave otherwise it’s an €80 charge! No maid came in during the short time we were there. No signs as to where to take the rubbish/recycling so we left it with some other rubbish that was left about. Yoga was an extra €10 euros each. Football and tennis were extra too. One positive thing is that all the floor surfaces were non slip so no need to worry if you are wearing heels and it’s raining. There is a free shuttle bus to Garda which stops between 12.30 and 3 and then starts again until 5ish. We used this a couple of times - one driver is practicing for F1! He was texting and making calls, driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding. I nearly fell out of my seat

Communication between the hotel and myself before arrival was fantastic, could not fault it at all and reception staff appeared to be very friendly. We arrived at 10am and couldn’t check into our room until 3pm which was fine so we decided to take the shuttle into Garda town. The shuttle bus was not appropriate for the amount of guests staying at this hotel. One of the days my 76 year old grandmother and I were sat on the floor in the boot of the bus even though we had stuck to the ticket system and were the first ones there. The staff do not check the tickets, only one day they checked in our whole 6 days of being at the hotel. Sometimes there are 2 buses if you are lucky but either way they only take 7-8 people or if you’re lucky, a seat in the boot. The staff driving the busses seem to pick up girls from the town and bring them back and forth meaning there’s less spaces on the bus, he spends his time kissing their hands and making a fuss of them rather than allowing guests of the hotel onto the bus. The breakfast was not great, food was always cold and did not look edible. The pancakes and pastries were lovely and the drinks were fab but I’m so glad we didn’t go half board as other guests told us it was not nice at dinner time. Also if you want to eat here without half board, it’s €35 a person each night. You can eat in the town for that price for two of you. The Italian restaurant just outside the hotel was lovely! We got a takeaway pizza from there one night which was so worth it and I would recommend if you’re struggling for food as it is affordable. The rooms itself were ok, old fashioned and could do with a remodel. We were on the first floor of the hotel practically over looking reception, very loud at night as you can hear every conversation going on outside reception and people above sound like they are stomping around every night. Beds were ok but the heat in the rooms were awful! We went October time and couldn’t turn the air con on but it was sweltering every night. Our balcony door was broken and virtually felt like it was coming off the hinges every time we tried to open it, not safe at all. drink prices were good for the hotel and couldn’t really fault this. We did want to go to the spa however it is only open from 2pm - 8pm and was too late by the time we wanted to go. Shop was only open from 8am-10am and there is virtually nothing in the shop so don’t rely on the shop for things other than water. They only take cash and the second it hits 10am, it’s shut so be quick. Personally I wouldn’t stay here again as there is room for improvement. We paid around £500 a person for 5 nights and 6 days and would rather have gone elsewhere however the hotel was always clean and staff were always friendly so cannot fault this at all. We had a junior suite, it was comfortable but a bit tired. As a destination for those interested in sport it is very good. The shuttle bus service was inadequate, only seating 7 people. We usually walked into Garda which is just under 2 miles and not the 2 kilometres advised in the brochure. The reception staff were polite and helpful. Housekeeping for our suite was immaculate. Breakfast had a good choice and something to suit everyone. However nothing cooked to order. Dinner was awful, we had half board and regretted booking it. After the first couple of nights we ate out. It would have been nice if the waiting staff at least smiled, no good morning/ have you had a nice day/ what are your plans for today. ☹️ just grumpy faces. On the plus we didn’t get to the hotel until around 9 in the evening and we were offered a cold buffet. It was the best meal we had in the hotel. There were several big conventions throughout the week and I wonder if this contributed to the poor food. Was the kitchen under pressure? If you are expecting nice Italian food I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Fantastic, reasonably priced food throughout Lake Garda. I afraid I would stay there again.
