Ascott Gurney Penang

Well recommended: convenient to gurney plaza mall. By grab less than 10rm. Receptionist is polite and efficient. Bar staff are friendly and polite. Room is big, clean, spacious. Our room leaked aircon water badly on the first night. They immediately, like we didn’t even have 5 mins to pack up, came to apologise, carry our luggage and upgraded our room. This service is unbeatable. Pool is big, nice and a hit with the kids. Kids room is small but functional. Made friends with a local on staycay. She suggested going the Top Komtar. We did: the view and walk is superb. Staff are friendly and polite. They made sure not to touch girls / get a female instructor, even for my little 5yo girl. Thanks to them for being so professional. Price quite worth it. Expect to spend 2-4hrs if getting the entire package to play. She said no need go downtown Georgetown for Penang chendol. Gurney plaza 4th floor food court has the exact same one. She also mentioned going Song Garden to eat, but we didn’t try. Think it’s an outdoor food court area style. Sells durians there too. She says watch your bags if going out on Georgetown streets. A lot of pickpockets. Best to skip it. We also went gurney drive food.. think we ordered wrong stalls ahh.. not very nice all the food we had. Should have done more research haha. They also charged us 200rm cos we broke the hair dryer tip omg.. I could have gone to jb with that price. Our fault I know but some sg hotels gave us a chance and didn’t charge when we broke glass cup and even showed concern whether we stepped on it. Bye bye 200..

Wonderful stay, the hotel is new and clean. But the toilet bowl is keep flushing and making noise all day long. Thank you Li Mei for the hospitality who checked us in and out.

Room space is big enough and good location which is located at gurney drive. Breakfast variety is nice and besides hotel breakfast can opt for other cafe choices which is just next to hotel and there’s plenty of choice for restaurants and convenience store as well. However no mineral water bottle in room as they go green, and drinking tap is provided in the room.

Nothing to complain about. All services and conditions are excellent. will repeat again when I get to Georgetown

Very nice hotel, very clean, the room I stayed in had a mini kitchen. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Bed was comfy. Excellent room indeed. However the room smelled a bit fishy literally. And somehow I couldn’t find an electrical outlet in the bathroom or near the closet mirror so it was hard drying my hair far from the mirror. Aside from that and the fishy smelly room, everything was excellent.

Choose Ascott Gurney due to the rooftop infinity pool, and it doesn't disappoint, good size with great views. Room also has one of the best views in Gurney. Amenities will be perfect if only have sauna and jacuzzi/onsen. Location is walkable from the malls in Gurney, but on hot days it can be quite tough, through wide road and not too covered sidewalks. Breakfast buffet is quite huge, but I feel taste can still be improved for certain items. Bath amenities: shower gel, shampoo, smells really good and nice. Park in front of the hotel just recently opened and it adds an attraction to Gurney's visitors and also traffic, especially on weekends/public holidays.

Really nice and spacious rooms with a good location. HOWEVER, service staff at the check in was horrendous. Promised us a check in at 3:30 for our 3 rooms on the same floor but rooms were not even ready at 4:30. The front desk staff was also extremely rude and sarcastic when telling us that our rooms weren’t ready. Ruined our experience at the hotel to be honest.
