Historic Smith Hotel B&B

Smith Hotel B&B is the antithesis of the chain hotels. Not luxurious in the usual sense, it is a comfortable home-like atmosphere. Rochelle a/k/a Rocky treated us like long lost family. She and BFF Bunny sat down with cups of coffee to join us while we were having our delicious homemade breakfasts, sharing their area knowledge and life experiences. As we were departing after two nights, there were hugs all around. Although it's located right on U.S. 89, set back from the road, there is a serenity provided by the trees and flowers. We sat on the porch, entertained by the hummingbirds, nesting swallows, and other birdlife. The birdlife is special to Rochelle. When a hummingbird crashed into the window while we were chatting at the breakfast table, Rochelle tenderly held the stunned creature until it was able to fly away. Rochelle is justifiably proud of her late husband's woodworking skills, as he made bedframes, headboards, and tables throughout the building. Other antiques are family heirlooms. Note that there are no restaurants or stores in walking distance, so you will likely eat and shop in larger towns between Glendale and the national parks. We spent 4 lovely nights at the Smith Historic Hotel in Glenndale, Utah. It was our home base for visiting Antelope Canyon, Zion, and Bryce. The drive to Page is about an hour and 45 minutes. The drive to the east gate of Zion is about 45 minutes and to Bryce is about an hour. The drives may seem far, but the scenery getting there is gorgeous! The hostess, Rochelle, was amazing. She was thoughtful and accommodating. She served a delicious breakfast 3 or our 4 mornings. The one morning when we chose not to sit down to breakfast she provided us with a grab and go – muffin, yogurt, fruit and juice. She keeps the ground beautiful. There are no resturants in Glenndale, but Knabb is 20 minutes away and they have lots of places to ear. Our room was comfortable and the bed was cozy. Yes, this is an older hotel and it indeed holds much history. It is an old boarding house. You can feel the history and I liked to imagine the young Mormons who chose to stay here when the hotel was built in the 1920’s. I would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from vacation. We were visiting the national parks. Chose to stay at the Smith Hotel Bed and Breakfast because of its location between Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. Owners of extremely nice and knowledgeable about the vicinity. They gave us great recommendations for dining and scenic drives. The breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, juice, yogurt and waffles and french toast. The room was nice sized, the bed (Room 2) was huge. The bathroom was adequate. There was also a nice porch area where my husband and I shared a bottle of wine and played dominoes. Definitely, would return.

Random thoughts. Hundred year old hotel with lots of antiques and good quality handmade furniture. Grounds were filled with fruit trees and hummingbirds galore. Hosts Rochelle and Mike were very welcoming and hospitable. Down the hall from our room was a sun porch where we enjoyed our morning coffee before delicious breakfast. Excellent location between Bryce Canyon and Zion NPs. We were guests for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
