It is really hard to rate Amanruya, as the different aspects of the place are so far apart that one rating cannot do it justice. This is probably the most beautiful hotel in Turkey I have stayed in, nestled into a bay of the Bodrum Peninsula away from the street and basically everything else the bungalows and the whole hotel are a view to behold. The interior design of the place is very beautiful as well. If it was just for the looks, I would come back every year! However the hotel suffers from the same weakness that most Turkish 5 Star Hotels have: they do not have the well-trained staff you could expect in such a place. The reason for that is often that staff is only hired by season and then let go again, often not to return. As often those staffers are only paid minimum wage, they often lack qualification and experience. I do not know, if Amanruya operates on that same flawed basis, but it was obvious that the service at least did not match that of a 5* resort. That is not to say that all staff were not friendly and helpful, they really were! However the idea of 5* service as I have experienced it in such hotels outside Turkey is basically a mix of being invisible and forecasting your desires, before you do. Yes, I know that is a lot to ask for, but then again, that is the main justiciation for the premium prices. I would say I do not even take an issue with service that is not 100% or even 50% like that. To give one example: it happened several times to me that I came back from dinner and was surprised to find the turn-down maids in my bungalow doing their work. This is unusal and given that I was out for dinner for 1-2 hrs minimum also a bit a question of timing, but ok that is not a problem, you just sit on the terrace and wait for them to finish. I am only listing this here not because I am an absolute snob, who never wants to see the working people in my expensive holiday home, but to illustrate that the service lacks a bit of fine tuning, that you normally have in 5* places. My problem with the service was more when it really impacted my wellbeing. There is something in the ressort that gave me an eye infection on a regular basis, its either something they spray maybe against the mosquitos (there was no mosquito problem that others here have related to) or something in the chemicals for the pool maybe? No idea, can happen. I therefore called reception and asked, if they could get some eye drops from the pharmacy for me. They said yes. That was around noon. Then I never heard from them again. I inquired again around 4 pm, if they had arrived, mind you in that time I could only lie around with closed eyes, not super enjoyable. They said the shopping person would get it soon. End of story, it arrived after around 7/8 pm. The next pharmacy is probably 20 minutes away. If they had told me that it would take that long I would have just called a cab into town and bought it myself. And yes, ok maybe the emergency of the situation was not cle
