Hunters Lodge Hotel

This is a great hotel that I found by accident. Looking for a good place to stop overnight on way to Anstruther from Stafford, this is it. Beds are really comfortable with great fluffy pillows. We chose a twin room, but double are available. The room was spacious and well stocked with tea coffee etc. loads of hot water and shower facilities. The food is home cooked and delicious. The proprietor was very friendly and attentive, couldn’t have made us more welcome. Drinks are reasonably priced. A 5 min walk away is a great shopping centre, and in the opposite direction an other 5 min walk takes you into the village of Gretna. I will be stopping here again that’s for sure.

We reserved a table for dinner with friends the night before our wedding and were blown away by the food! Homemade with love. We highly recommend the burgers and the Ragu. Service was brilliant, couldn’t fault her. We didn’t stay at the hotel but if we would judge the hospitality on the service and food we received in the restaurant, we’d definitely be back. Thank you!

Stayed here for one night en route from Fort William to Cambridge. It is a really good place for a stop-over. Great location. Plenty of car parking. Lovely clean rooms throughout. Tasty food. Amazing value. And walking distance to a very good shopping village. Linda welcomed us on arrival and was so cheerful, friendly and helpful. She served us at dinner with great recommendations and also at breakfast. We had Room 1 which was adequate for our brief stay but was on the small side with a very compact shower room. Toiletries were really nice and towels soft and plentiful. Bed was very comfy. Had a coffee machine and hairdryer and use of an iron if needed. Dinner was good-in particular, the beef ragu pasta and garlic bread was delicious and the Malbec wine good quality. Breakfast was cereals, juice and/or yogurt followed by a full Scottish with haggis and plenty of tea/coffee and toast. Nicely presented and very tasty. Easy checkout. All-in-all a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Recommend to anyone needing a good place to stay to break a long journey.

Whilst this hotel doesn't share the same outlook as some of the larger hotels in Gretna it offers great food, friendly service and delivers great value (by the way the Blacksmith's shop is within walking distance albeit it's not just around the corner). This former officers' mess provides clean accommodation, in large rooms, both within the main building and in the extension to the rear. The hostess is very friendly, with a great sense of humour, and is more than happy to go the extra mile. Her husband is the chef and produces some really good food. Whilst the starters were great, the main course was even better. (Can I recommend that you try the 'Hunters Ultimate' homemade burger - which includes haggis). They also offer some really decent wines. T(ry the Los Picos Distantes Malbec.) We chose the dinner, bed and breakfast deal and believe that it's great value for money.

Stopped in this town on our way to Glasgow The reception was very friendly and the room was big and very clean The bed was super comfortable We had a drink in bar lounge area but only one as we was up early to carry on our journey I would definitely stay here again especially for exploring the area
