We enjoyed a one night stay at the Cat & Lion. The evening meal in the restaurant was very nice with great service. The room was clean tidy and the bed very comfortable. We had full english breakfasts in the morning and that was excellent, very tasty.

stayed for just one night as exactly half way for me and my sister to meet up, both of us said that we would definitely return. If I was being fussy the room could have some slight improvements - slightly shabby in the bathroom, strange (cheap?) loo roll, and a cobweb on the light fitting by the bed! But that's being picky- the room was very comfortable and clean, I slept very well, quiet despite being near a main road. But the best bits: the evening meal was delicious (we had a selection of the 'small plates') and on that basis we both had Eggs Benedict for breakfast, hard to get right but perfect. The staff: lovely. Friendly, enthusiastic, welcoming, a credit to the company.

Food was excellent - dinner and breakfast, bar staff in the evening were friendly and welcoming. Morning staff were surly and brusque, they didn't want to be there. Wifi worked well in pub but not in rooms - a problem since EE had poor coverage. Rooms a bit tired, loo roll holder didn't work but a loose roll nearby worked OK! Good value, a good night's sleep.

First time staying here . I was working local and found this place. Good value for money. Nice big clean room and the pub was great with decent food served. Good sized carpark. The staff that run the place and serve in the pub are all really nice. I’ll definitely be back if I’m working that way.

The staff were friendly and this is a good budget option. I booked directly with the hotel and got a better rate and a great veggie breakfast. The rooms were ok and bed quite comfy, but the bathroom was rather shabby and there was no toilet roll on the holder, just a spare one that should have been for a dispenser. Mould /black around the bath and cheap hand wash/shower gel which were the same. My cousin's didn't work. Generally the rooms could do with a refresh and were also very warm without having a window open. Lots of parking and easy to find. The only other thing was food and drink availablity. We arrived for a wedding with time to spare but were told that despite being not yet 12 they couldn't make a coffee and were clearing up after breakfast . We had just driven 3 hours. It was only 10.30. and when we returned from the wedding at 11.30pm we wanted a last drink and were again told they had cashed up. They are supposed to be open until 12. There were staff there and there were 5 of us so they could have made more money. If there were no staff or they were sick I could understand but two of them were standing there and we could have been served. You don't keep closing earlier in hospitality at the expense of guest satisfaction and it was in advertised pub opening hours.

An overnight stay for a relative's party. We've stayed here in the past when it was owned. Y a well k own chain and I said I'd never stay here again then. But it is vastly improved now and unrecognisable from before. Lovely room that's been thoughtfully decorated which made it feel like a home. I was poorly so didn't get to the party, but I felt very comfortable here. Even the pictures on the walls were so different from the usual generic hotel art. It was spotlessly clean, everything looked new and the bed was very comfortable. Won't hesitate to come back again.

What a lovely place! We weren’t sure what to expect but needed a stopover on our way north. Our room was quiet and very comfortable. Our evening meal was good and the breakfast this morning was ample! Service was quick and the accosted our food allergies with no fuss.
