Marriott's Barony Beach Club

After having several not great experiences the last few times we used our MVC, Barony Beach absolutely renewed our faith! We could not have asked for a better experience from start to finish. We came down for our school vacation week with our 8 and 6 year old and my 71 year old mother. It was the off season so definitely quieter and the weather while cold only rained one day. The activities team was amazing from start to finish and had something for every age group. Mercedes and Joey made it a point to try and get to know each guest and had such a wonderful energy each day. Everyone found several things they wanted to do each day. From Bingo to crafts and games and cookies and smores and the indoor pool. Our kids never complained they were bored. The rum tasting was so well done for adults, but my kids favorite was the raptors experience! The woman brought several owls and birds and the kids learned all about them while seeing them up close. They could not stop talking about it and she was wonderful with all the kids there. Everything we had at the restaurant y’all’s was fantastic. Todd was amazing and provided such great recommendations and experience each time we went in. Drinks were great and made fun non alcoholic drinks for the kids. We have stayed at MVC pretty much exclusively on vacations and this is the first resort every single person we came across from check in to activity and service was fantastic. We can not say enough great things about the staff at this resort. Rooms were clean and we heard very minimal noise from construction. They were great at communicating exactly where and when that would be happening so you can plan and none was happening before 9:30. Hilton Head is beautiful with fantastic walking and biking trails. We would absolutely return to the island and resort!

Booked this instead of staying in Downtown Savannah, it was nice seeing the city by day and enjoying the properties amenities in the evenings. Our two bedroom unit was absolutely huge. Not only did the guest bedroom (two queens in our set up) have a second bathroom, there was also a walk in closet with a second sink. The master bedroom had a king sized bed and a large bathroom with two sinks. There was a large dining room table, plus a breakfast bar in the kitchen and lots of seating in the living room as well as a balcony. The kitchen had Modern appliances and every thing we needed for cooking. There was also a large washer and dryer and plenty of detergent to use. The pool had a waterslide (it was too cold for us to use the pool but it looks like it's open year round) and we enjoyed playing Foosball, they also had corn hole and ping pong and probably other games we missed. This was a great property, we'd love to return when we have more time and the weather is warmer.

My family loved the stay and we will be returning! The hotel was very clean. All of the staff I dealt with was incredibly nice. The room was cheap because I booked months in advance I was so pleased with the quality for the money. Amazing pool area for the kids that is heated so they were outside playing even though it was less than 60 degrees out. The front desk manager was so kind that she sent us a complementary bottle of wine to our room. The restaurant on site wasn’t too bad either, certainly nothing too impressive but I didn’t have to leave to go get food which I did like. There’s gas stations within 3 minutes from the hotel so you can get any goodies you may need easily. Loved the site, loved the staff, loved the quality for the money, and we had a great time. Shoutout to Taylor Knudsen the front desk manager for the hand written letter and wine, making my family feel so welcome and grateful on top of all the other amazing staff that helped us with whatever we needed. Keep up the great work guys :)

The grounds and beach are very nice but I had a terrible experience here. The air in some of the buildings is VERY moldy. I became allergic to mold after staying in a moldy condo several years ago. I made it clear before arriving that I am allergic to mold. Upon check-in, I reminded them of this but the room they assigned had a VERY strong mold smell- it was coming from the vents, which means it is in the HVAC for that entire building. My husband, who is not sensitive, smelled it too. Without touching anything in the room, we went back to the front desk to request another room. The front desk manager, Alan, gave me a very hard time, saying that they had no mold, no one else has complained, and he had given us the best room available. I asked if I could see another room before switching and he refused. I was happy to accompany a manager or housekeeping- he refused. He said I could book a different room without smelling it. Since he said there was no mold, and I clearly know there was, I didn’t want to get myself into a worse situation, so we kept the same room. He treated me like I was stupid and unreasonable. I tried to air out the room, but it was so humid and hot it was necessary to keep the AC on and windows shut. At 4 am, I woke up having enough difficulty breathing that I slept the remainder of the night outside on the cement floor of the balcony. The next morning, Alan said they could possibly switch my room after an 11am meeting. So we had to wait around, and in the meantime I visited a nearby hotel, where they gladly let me smell the room I would book, and it was not moldy. After telling Alan this, he had the housekeeping manager meet me at my room- which I was staying out of at this point- and she let me smell the air in the unit next door (also moldy, as I would expect, being in the same building.) She then took me to another building and that room was much better and tolerable mold-wise. She was helpful and respectful, but I spent a miserable night, compromised my health, wasted a half-day of my vacation, and endured being marginalized before we got to that point.

Extremely disappointing! We prefer the Marriott Oceanwatch in Myrtle over this one (despite how much we enjoy Hh over Myrtle!) The activities were not catered towards families/children. We tried to show up to one of the very few kids activities and the activities director told us they packed up and left if no one arrived within the first 15 minutes (the activity was supposed to last for 75 minutes!!) I requested a high floor before check in and was put on 1st floor. Front desk told me that was the only room they had available…even tho it was Feb and it wasn’t crowded. We experienced a lot of noise. There were people playing shuffleboard until after 11pm. I had to contact the front desk. Could also hear everything from room above. Also, my daughter was running a fever of 104 on the morning of checkout so I requested a late checkout, at least until it went down. I was told no. Nothing more, just no. Pool was supposed to be heated but not very warm. Rooms were nice but not very clean. We had a urine stain on our comforter. Would 100% choose the local Hilton, Westin, or Sonesta over this one!!!

We are long time HHI Marriott visitors. We are scheduled for an upcoming visit to Barony in several months and stopped by the property in Jan 2025 and asked to see a Room. The answer was "no, we don't allow that". I was willing to leave my ID or credit card at the front desk, the answer was still no. Could someone (e.g., housekeeping or security) accompany us? Nope. returned to my other Marriott property and asked if that was a Marriott practice and they said no it was up to property management. I'm reconsidering my future stay at Barony...this just seems odd to me.
