Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp

From the moment we arrived the manager and the staff we encountered were most helpful and attentive. The manager was most concerned that the raised toilet seat they had provided was adequate (actually excellent) In the restaurant Anastazia had been instructed to help carry my plate when there was a buffet at breakfast and lunch. In the evening Steven gave an illustrated talk on the wildlife of Samburu which was very interesting. Unfortunately we had only booked a two night stay. Would love to return one day

At 2 p.m. when the temperature reaches 37 C we get to Samburu Intrepids Camp and because we know this Camp, so without asking too many questions, we start with lunch. There is a choice of onion soup, vegetable soup, lamb or fish, vegetables and we of course take Tusker. We stay at tent No 10 facing the river like all other tents . Rather disappointingly the water is cold (and I don’t mean the river) and Wi-Fi at the reception only. The tent is very clean with a big bed in the middle and a bathroom en suite, terrace with two chairs. Not very inspiring and you can hear people from a neighbouring tent arguing. So ZERO privacy. The paths are even but the lamps along are at the wrong height and provide very poor illumination. For dinner: pumpkin soup, pork (soft) , mashed potatoes, sorbet and fruit. The camp generator noise is rather loud so try getting a tent as far as possible from it if you want to rest in peace (no pun intended) And remember, in the early morning 3 - 4 a.m. it gets cold so have a duvet ready.

We had a magical few days at the Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp, starting with a very friendly welcome at the airstrip from Anthony, our guide. On the drive to the camp alone we saw the Samburu Special 5! Anthony was the best guide we could have had - so knowledgeable about the wildlife and the local Samburu culture, going out of his way to hunt for the elusive leopard, and always with a great sense of humour and energy. Breakfast on the rocks was a highlight, as were our close up encounters with elephants and giraffes, against the stunning backdrop of the hills and river. The staff at the camp couldn’t have been more welcoming, the food was delicious and our rooms extremely comfortable. Thank you to you all for making this a trip of a lifetime.

My husband and I enjoyed staying at Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp. Our stay was nothing short of spectacular—what we would describe as luxurious camping at its finest. We were happy to have stayed for four nights as it gave us ample time to discover the reserve, observe wildlife at ease, and get to know the hotel staff. Our tent was incredibly spacious, offering plenty of room to relax, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The camp's location near the river and the velvet monkeys on the property added to its charm. The food was a highlight, with delicious meals served throughout our stay. While the two lunch buffets we attended were tasty, they were offered twice with pretty much the same food, which could be improved by offering different foods for consecutive days. That said, upon request, the camp did a good job catering to dietary needs. The staff was truly outstanding—Susan, Victor, and Gideon, in particular, were extremely pleasant and attentive. As a nature lover, I also had the privilege of connecting with Samburu native Lenangurntaremowuarakmeteperuotenkop (Steve for guests or Toropyie for me), which made my experience even more meaningful and enriching. He also offered short presentations on the Samburu and Maasai culture and the Samburu wildlife every evening. Despite the minor inconvenience of electricity downtimes, we felt safe, deeply reassured, and well cared for throughout our stay. If we ever return to Samburu, we will stay at Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp again. Highly recommended. I want to give special thanks to Toropyie for making my time at Intrepids extra special and to Susan, Victor, and Gideon for taking so much care of my husband and me. We hope to see you again.

Absolutely Disgusting and Unacceptable My experience at this so-called hotel was beyond dreadful. The staff? Utterly rude and incompetent, as if customer service was a foreign concept to them. The food was inedible; I wouldn’t serve it to my worst enemy. On top of that, the amenities advertised were non-existent—false advertising at its finest. This place is a disgrace and should be shut down. Save your money and sanity. And again I repeat!, this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. The manager was not only unhelpful but incredibly rude and unprofessional. Instead of addressing my concerns about the filthy room and terrible service, they made inappropriate, sexual remarks that left me shocked and uncomfortable. This behavior is beyond unacceptable. The entire establishment is a disaster, and management is a disgrace. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this nightmare of a place.
