We stayed at the Aegean Houses for 12 nights during mid-October 22. The Hotel is in an ideal location only 10 mins from lovely sandy beaches with various bars offering thick cushioned sunbeds, that stretch around 2 km down into wonderful Kos Town. On arrival, we were offered drinks everything seemed well maintained and reception and bar staff introduced themselves and were extremely polite. We were given our keys and made our way to our apartment. We had paid extra for a superior room, we were hoping to get a nice room to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. The apartment was large and clean with plenty of storage space and hangers, we were on the ground floor, unfortunately, the balcony was below ground level at the rear corner of the hotel, facing the cleaner's room, which usually is never a good sign. We found there was no sunshine until sunset, possibly due to the low sun at this time of the year. But we thought hey ho! it's nice and quiet, and we're not overlooked and also away from the main road, there were chickens wandering around the grassed area around our balcony we thought at least it was quirky!! We also didn't want to make a fuss after our long journey, we unpacked and made the most of it. After a couple of days, the apartments above us and at the side of us became occupied and this is where our problems began. We noticed on our arrival the unorthodox flush system on the loo, it was like a power flush button which was extremely effective but incredibly loud. These flushes carried on throughout the night, every night, from every room around us. We spoke to other guests who also found the noise level very disturbing during the night, also with people talking loudly on the way back to their apartments. We found the general soundproofing in these apartments extremely poor. The cleaners were also very noisy in the mornings, the footsteps and moving furniture from the above apartment louder than anywhere we've encountered. Kos was the fifteenth Greek Island we've visited and we loved the island and will return. We hired bikes and visited most of its beautiful sites, this cycle-friendly island has its own unique feel. During mid-October, the weather remained fantastic throughout, we ate alfresco most evenings without the need for a hoodie, just T-shirts. Kos is a great destination for a late summer/autumn holiday.
