Despite the fact, you might have a slightly treacherous last 50yds up a steep hill with your ski gear, what you find when you step through the door of Vielle Ferme is a historic delight. If you are looking for modern, ski-in/ski-out facilities this is not for you - but if you want to experience a place where parts date back 300 years, this is great. The modern comfort and convenience is all still here - but historical features are in every view - from the cloistered bar and restaurant to the exposed beams in your room - make this a delightful place. And it is the same with Magnus and his team of very friendly, efficient and accommomdating staff. Welcoming throughout our stay, the team was efficient, friendly and adaptable when it came to things like last-minute menu requests. We stayed half-board, and with two-hour windows in the morning and evening, meal-times were a relaxing treat. There was a wide range of food available in the morning, to get you ready for the slopes, from porridge to cold cuts and bacon and egg, along with great tea and coffee. When it came to the three-course evening meals, the attention to detail in what was offered and the way it was presented was fabulous - there wasn't a dish that had not been prepared with care and the waiting staff delivered them all with a friendly relaxed charm. With only a five-minute walk to the Aravet ski lift, you can quickly get out and onto the great pistes of Serre Chevalier with ease. This is a great place to stay.
