My husband and I booked a pre-paid king room with sofa for one night through an online travel site. We arrived at the hotel at approximately 10 pm after a long day on the road to find a crowded lobby and a line at the front desk for check-in. The front desk attendant informed my husband that the hotel was at capacity, that our booked room type was not available and that the only rooms available were double beds. He told him that that was unacceptable, rejected the switch, and asked that the hotel document the situation in writing. The employee refused, but said that the travel agent could call the hotel and verify everything. After getting settled at an affiliated hotel nearby, my husband called the travel agency, who subsequently called the hotel. The hotel manager refused to approve a refund and claimed that we failed to show up to the hotel for the booking. This is a lie. From home, my husband called the hotel directly and asked to speak to a manager. He was put on hold, and when the employee came back to the phone (not a manager), she said that she was told that the refund was refused because the hotel had rooms available that night. When my husband called out the inconsistent excuses, complained that the hotel’s position was unacceptable, and stated that we planned to dispute the charge for a chargeback on our credit card, the employee hung up on him.
