Travelodge London Central Aldgate East

The room was comfortable & clean. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Staff helpful & pleasant. It’s quite near the tourist area of The Tower of London etc & I was there to visit Tower Hill Memorial of Mercantile losses @ sea are honoured from both World Wars.

I'm a long-time, frequent and usually satisfied Travelodge customer. But my room (301) at London Central Aldgate East was dreadful. There is a small warning on the Travelodge website about possible noise from nearby trains but my window (which didn't close properly) was literally a few metres from the rail lines. To add insult to injury my door was right next to the lift. And there was a regular and loud clanking noise through the night from pipes or something. It was like trying to sleep through an earthquake. Over many years I've been 95% happy with Travelodge. They are good value generally and I've had plenty of decent experiences. But the London Central Aldgate East hotel is located down a dingy back street near Tower Bridge which doesn't feel particularly safe. I remember staying here a few years ago in some kind of 'annexe' section where it felt like non-customers could easily get into the corridors/rooms if they wanted. And this latest experience with the noisy room was horrible. I will give this hotel a wide berth in future and I certainly don't recommend room 301. It shouldn't be used for guests really unless they do something about sound-proofing. On the good side, the reception staff member was pleasant on arrival (no one around when I checked out at 745am) and the hotel is of course well placed in central London.

As title, booked a few weeks ago, I knew that my flight arrived a bit late so called in the afternoon of my arrival to tell them about my late arrival (which was around 12am). They told me they can do nothing about it, and when i arrived they told me no room left, please come **r morning so they can give me my room. When i arrived **r at 11 am they told me it’s too late, no room left. In particular with a pretty unpleasant attitude towards me. I was a bit pissed then they found me my room reluctantly. I guess i probably took some other poor guy’s room.

For a brief visit, it's acceptable. The hotel is conveniently located near train lines, but many rooms may experience noise disturbances from passing trains. Ensure you request a room on the opposite side of the railway to minimize disruption. The water pressure is unsatisfactory, and breakfast is served from 7 to 10 am, albeit not the finest in town, but it suffices. Initially, I was assigned a room with a broken window, but after requesting a change, I was relocated. The staff members are amiable and endeavor to assist guests.

The outside of the hotel looked like not very fancy but once I got in everything was so clean and comfortable. I loved the reception very good service from them. The area was so central to everything. Bus stop was just a few minutes work. Would stay there again if I ever went back.

I was honoured to be invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace along with some of my shipmates. The hotel was ideally situated for our needs been close to tube stations etc. The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and the breakfast very good. Also there was a wetherspoons just down the road.

When I arrived I discovered I'd booked the wrong date! But the member of staff on the reception desk, Tulasi, sorted it all out for me in minutes. Very efficient and with a pleasant and helpful manner, too. Well done on such excellent customer service.
