Staying here ended up being the highlight of our two-week trip around the islands. This guesthouse was thoughtfully built by Nora and her family, and they provided us with a great first-hand history of the island. Dinner time was particularly memorable, with all of the guests coming together in the dining area to share their travel stories over some amazing meals prepared by Nigel. Our group stayed in three of the bungalows, and it was the best sleep we had on our travels, with the peaceful breeze and periodic sound of rain on the roof throughout the night. The Hibiscus can help you on all sorts of excursions around the island, including the renowned "Boiling Lake" (which we hope to do next time). We did an afternoon river tubing tour guided by Angus, visited the Kalinago Cultural Center, and swam in several of the waterfalls situated all over the island. And, while the guesthouse makes you feel like you're in a remote part of the rainforest, you're actually only about a 15-minute drive from the airport. Aside from the tranquil and scenic environment, the best part about staying here was the people. Nigel's was the first face we saw when we stepped off the ferry in Roseau, and he became an integral part of our time on Dominica - from his driving tours, to cooking the dinners that we looked forward to each night, to his ridiculously-good rum concoctions, and, of course, his consummately positive vibe. It was a pleasure to see Rita and Karen each morning at breakfast. While their eggs with avocado was a big hit, my particular favorite was their pumpkin soup. And a shout-out to Omary, who always made sure we got where we needed to be - no matter how hard we made that for him. One of the other reviews said "We felt like part of the family", and I don't think that could be said any better. Nora and her family have put together a very special place, and we were lucky to have stumbled upon it. We hope to be back again soon!
