Heliconia Amazon River Lodge

If you are looking for the first true Amazonas experience, it's the place to stay. If you want to discover true rainforest and meet real Amazonas village people, you should find a place far from Iquitos. We had excellent guides (Lucio and Elvis), and they compensated for a lot of what was missing from the first-hand experience.

Awesome place to stay at if you’re going to Iquitos. Everything was planned out. Food was great. Staff was friendly. The rooms were nicely cleaned. The tour guy was amazing and very friendly. Will definitely recommend anybody that is thinking about coming to go to Heliconia

Spent 3 days and 2 nights at this eco lodge. The lodge its self was stunning with lots of plants throughout. The room was clean, comfortable and backed onto the jungle giving you a nice view. You only have electricity for certain times of day which wasn’t an issue for us at all and the WiFi is on for 24 hours. The food was basic there’s not much choice if you’re vegetarian. The best part of our stay was our guide Nixon, he took us out on lots of trips to see wildlife. He was very knowledgeable and made it a very fun experience. Also a big fan of Pedro the parrot

We spent 2 nights /3 days at Heliconia Lodge. The lodge itself was beautiful with an abundance of fauna and flora surrounding the area. The rooms were great too with decent meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best part however was having Nixon as our guide, not only did he make us feel incredibly welcome and at home but was also very well informed about all areas of Amazon life, there wasn't anything he didn't know. We would 100 % return here in the future and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

I was sick when I arrived (the illness being the cousin of Montezuma’s Revenge - Atahualpa’s Revenge) and the resort staff kindly checked on me, offered to take me to the local clinic (20 minutes away by boat), informed me about alternative jungle medicine, and gave me the universal restorative: chicken soup, which cured me and was delicious. Truthfully, I took Imodium, Zithromax and electrolyte replacement prior to the chicken soup. I recovered in 1 day. I almost didn’t come to Heliconia because of the diarrhea and fear that I wouldn’t be close to a baño or large tree, but I am so glad I made it there. I loved it. We were there in early November and it is the end of the dry season, the river is low, and there weren’t many mosquitos. You could hike in the rainforest on foot. In the rainy season the jungle is more accessible by boat. The food was local and delicious. We saw lots of birds and there are oropendola nesting at the resort (woven hanging basket type nests.) The resort had a turtle sand box and we were lucky that the rescued turtle eggs were hatching while we were there. They keep the turtles a month and then release them into the river. We saw monkeys, sloths, lemur, poison dart frogs, bats, and spiders. There is a lovely swimming pool in the center of the compound. The staff members were gracious and kind, and the guides were knowledgeable. Laid back kind of place for the adventurous. All the nature tours and cultural experiences were included. Antony our guide was awesome. He gave us a side tour of the local medical clinic and we may return as medical volunteers.

Heliconia was a wonderful lodge well organised and maintained.Great staff friendly and helpful. Swimming pool and wi-fi. The best thing about the Heliconia was the FOOD ,it was delicious different every day and very thoughtful.Fabulous food all the kitchen staff should be applauded.

We spent 3 days in the Heliconia Lodge that is a large and spacious Lodge. We had a big room. Everything was well organised and we had an excellent tourguide. His name is Nixon. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, had a good feeling of the area. We did a lot of different activities - all of them interesting and exciting. With Nixon we saw the pink dolphins and caught some piranhas. He made our stay on the Amazone very special. All the staff was very friendly.

Just returned from an unforgettable 4 day stay at Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. Our guide, Manuel, was awesome! So knowledgeable about local flora and fauna, and did his very best to ensure we had the best experience possible. All of the staff at Heliconia were polite and very helpful. The food and juices were amazing! The rooms were clean and comfortable (it is the jungle so expect an occasional bug). There was a sloth hanging out right by our room! The excursions were well paced and fun. We had an incredible time and such a great experience with Heliconia and Manuel.

We had an amazing stay at Heliconia lodge! We were very impressed by the structure of the compound, including an elevated concrete path going into the jungle that made for a nice transition into our jungle hikes. The food was delicious each and every meal. All of the staff were attentive and polite throughout. Our guide Freddy and boat captain Elvis were particularly helpful in answering questions and spotting wildlife during our stay! The only negative thing I could really say would be a lack of wildlife in the jungle near the lodge….We saw lots of birds and wildlife in & around the river, including the famous pink dolphins! But if you want to see a lot of jungle wildlife you should go to the National Reserve to the south. The local villagers have voracious appetites and eat up most of the local wildlife =P If you want the best of both worlds of an Amazon experience paired with a comfortable stay including cooked meals, a swimming pool, a bar and TV, then come here! Basically, if jungle wildlife is not your number one priority then I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay a few days here at Heliconia!
