Il Tosco

The architecture and furnishings of this small boutique hotel are beautiful--the common areas felt like we were in a palace. The room and bathroom we stayed in were large and had every convenience that made our stay comfortable. It was quiet, clean, and felt like home. The kitchen was always open to the guests to enjoy a variety of pastries and drinks. A bottle of wine and fresh water was provided in our room. The towels and bath products were lovely. The bed linens were exquisite (who expects that?). There was always candy, fruit, and bar items in the living room. Parking was available, even though it was a climb up to the hotel (we were told we could get a permit to drop off/pick up luggage). Breakfast always delicious, with individually prepared egg dishes available. Dining reservations were made for us. It was a lovely stay. Angelina was a delightful and gracious hostess and made our stay memorable.

Angelina kind and helpful. We had trouble with our key not working after hours, and Angelina came within 15 minutes to remedy the problem. Breakfasts delicious. Made-to-order poached eggs and omelettes. Our room was large, with a huge bathroom. Quiet. Fresh air from windows that opened. Very clean place to stay. The ceilings and furniture were beautiful. Always fresh pastries and cake in kitchen. Carafe of water daily and opportunity to refill from the kitchen at any time. Helped us with dinner reservations and wine tasting.

Heading to Montepulciano, book this place. It's a small, boutique guest house, in the heart of the old town, with just a handful of rooms and located within a grand former town villa. It's rare that a hotel comprehensively exceeds my expectations. Il Tosco did just that. For example, on arrival you're taken in to the kitchen, shown a wide selection of freshly baked cakes and told to help yourself, for free. Same goes for coffee, tea, sparkling water (from a tap), dried fruits and even a selection of spirits. The breakfast is served in the dining room, where your sit around a grand table with other guests, making it a communal experience. And the selection is great. The rooms are very well appointed. When large chains, even at the 5 star end are going cheap on toiletries, it was great to see that Il Tosco offered Salvatore Ferragamo products. It's a detail, but it aligns with the Tuscan theme and demonstrates that the owner really cares. Il Tosco was the perfect start to our Tuscan adventure.

We stayed at Il Tosco for five nights in June 2023, and this bed and breakfast far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Dante Room which had a postcard picture view of the Tuscan countryside. What a joy it was to wake up to that view each morning! The breakfasts are sumptuous with many baked pastries, made by the owner’s mother, Clori, who is magical in the kitchen. Some mornings we enjoyed pumpkin flan with melted cheese sauce, quail eggs on a muffin, spinach quiche, and even little cups of panna cotta or slivers of cheesecake. We could ask for eggs prepared as we like or a custom omelette. Fresh fruit and juices are plentiful, along with cheeses and salami. Angelina made us cappuccino each morning, and prepared hot water for tea. The kitchen is open at night to all guests if we needed a cup of hot tea or a slice of chocolate tart. Angelina cheerfully made dinner/lunch reservations for us, as restaurants are tiny in Montepulciano. She made restaurant recommendations ( we ate well!), and called taxis for us to take day trips to Pienza and Montefollonico. She did it all with a smile. There are not enough stars to rate this wonderful bed and breakfast. We are already planning our next trip here, and we’ll be bringing friends.

Our stay at Il Tosco was absolutely fantastic. We had the family suite with 2 bedrooms. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean, and very spacious. The living room was very pretty and huge; it made you feel you're at home. The 2 bathrooms were modern and 5* quality. While in the historical center of Montepulciano, the place is completely quiet and we got plenty of good sleep at night. But the best was the buffet breakfast; it had absolutely everything you could possibly want, and the food was simply delicious. Angelina took such good care of us at breakfast; whatever we requested - cappuccino, fresh OJ, hot chocolate - we got it right away. While all of this was already great, what made our stay a truly exceptional experience was our host Elena. Communication prior to our arrival was first rate and always very quick. During our stay, Elena was always there for us. In fact, we had a little car accident, and Elena and her father kindly helped us with all the paper work and dealing with the other party involved. We couldn't have done this without her as the other party didn't speak English. Elena will not hesitate to go out of her way to help you, whatever it is. What a truly wonderful person. Overall, this was an exceptionally delightful experience. We give Il Tosco our highest possible recommendation. Needless to say, we will be back next time we're in Tuscany.

I wish we could give Il Tosco 10 stars! No detail was spared and we were made to feel as though we were visiting a friend's home. Our room was exquisite and the view from our window was everything we had dreamed. We even sacrificed a pre-paid night in Rome to extend our stay 1 more day! If you get the chance to stay here you will not be disappointed. We already miss the baked goods we always had for breakfast!
