Staff was very helpful and friendly. Made a special take-alomg breakfast on a day we had a very early tour booked.

Calathea Lodge is in a perfect location to tour Monteverde area. The balcony facing trees in the back allowed us to capture a picture of a teal-browed motmot. The reception staff are exceptionally helpful in arranging tours, and any last minute requests. Breakfast was sumptuous and helped us enjoy long hikes during the day. They even packed us breakfast to go on the day we checked out because we had an early start. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Great accommodations. Spacious and very affordable. Staff were awesome and the location was great for exploring the area around Monteverde.

This is a fantastic place to stay, a very short drive to get into town, but still very convenient! The staff was incredible, very comfortable room, and breakfast was great!! Great value, wonderful place, highly recommend staying here!!

The building it self and room was nice and staff were very friendly and helpful. The issue for us was the location. The photos online are accurate but the unless you enjoy an authentic view of a 3d world country, the neighborhood was not so great. The access to this place is a rough dirt alley. The view from one side is of a caged house with a mud yard and a pile of old tires. The view from patio is rusted metal roofs and more shacks. Additionally you are expected to put your used toilet paper in the waste basket. My wife would not have that so in order to do a #2 one needs to do your business in stages where you need to flush the toilet 5-6 times, not so eco-friendly. Due to the poor plumbing conditions our room smelt like a sewer all the 2nd day with the shower backing up and overflowing to the bathroom floor. No AC is common around here but wish we had it. Again the staff were great, breakfast was good too bad about the plumbing and neighborhood.

Location was great! The breakfasts were excellent! We had an amazing outside dining experience every morning with gorgeous views all the way to the ocean!
It was a spacious 2 bedroom apartment that was perfect for a small family!
The staff was great to talk with and made an excellent experience for a place to stay. I would come back here every time, highly recommended!
