Wingate by Wyndham Mount Vernon

We were looking for an affordable place to stay for a couple days that welcomed dogs and we found it but not sure if we’ll use again. Pros: reasonable rates, low charge for animal stay, good coffee (in lobby - not in room), spacious room, all the amenities, GREAT breakfast, close to freeway and shopping. Cons: room smelled like old cigarettes covered with febreeze, not in a great area - dirty and lots of people living in cars parked on the street.

Checkin was quick and easy. Property had garbage all around and looked trashy. Hotel was under construction and I wasn’t aware of that when booking. Pool was also down and they said over the phone that we could get tickets to use the gym next door until 9:00. When we got to the hotel, they said we could only go until 6pm. When we entered our room, it had a very weird bad odor. We had to open the door to air it out. Beds are comfortable but rooms are not the cleanest. Floors look very dirty and there was a booger on the bath room wall.

We were not told the hotel was undergoing renos when booked, our individual room was okay, but there was a lot of garbage left in the hallways by workers who were staying there and one day there was no hot breakfast left because workers had eaten it all.

The stairs up to the door were dirty and the edging material missing in some places. No one was at the desk. Finally a young woman checked us in (slowly) and we made our way to our room. The elevator was very dirty, the hallway didn’t smell good and our room didn’t smell good. So I told my husband we can’t stay here. We spent some time looking for a different hotel and then went back to the check in desk. We said we needed to cancel our reservation and told the young woman we wanted a refund. She said she needed to call her manager. The manager said we would need to call her at her office the next morning. We asked for a business card - there wasn’t one available. We asked for a receipt and the young woman printed one for us. Overall, it as a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I have never seen a hotel so poorly maintained.

The whole place was dirty. The garbage cans in the halls were overflowing, did not get empty the 4 nights in was there. There was dirt and debris all over the floors whole time. Some of the walls had holes in them that were not repaired. They did not come in my room one time to clean, even though i had the “service please” placard on the door handle. I would not recommend staying here.

Front desk and cleaners did great work, but it's clear that the property is not being well maintained and on top of needed repairs. My bed was comfortable but curtains did not cover the windows (too small), resulting in no way block out security lights, sink faucet had leak with water spraying through the side of the faucet, tv remote broken. That said, staff were friendly and towels, bedding, and toiletries all clean.

The hotel is under a lot of renovations which may explain also why the staff is not attentive to how filthy the floors are, among other parts of the building. I do not envy the General Manager. No doubt good help is hard to find in Mt. Vernon. That fact shows up all over town.

The staff was nice and helpful but the room was terrible. I’ve never left a review but It was not properly cleaned. There was hair and dirt in the jacuzzi, garbage left behind, dirty ice bucket. The phone didn’t even have a cord to be able to use. No hair dryer, no hdmi setting. We made the best of it but we had our 7 month old with us so it was very off putting to have to clean the room ourselves.

Just a run down old Best Western with a new name. This just definitely wasn't what I expected when I booked. I am out of town visiting family in town and misread the pool being outdoors. When we asked the lady at the front, she was extremely sarcastic. The remote for the tv barely worked. A light switch was missing. The comforters tag was hanging out right next to my face on the bed. I would have stayed elsewhere having known better. Dont waste your money.
