De Gulden Waagen

Hotel is erg goed gelegen op het einde van de hippe winkelstraat waar ook ook veel restaurants gelegen zijn, dichtbij Grote Markt, Waal kade, Kronenburger park. Onze kamer was blijkbaar in renovatie want er hing een indringende verfgeur en verf sporen op de badkamer vloer die nog niet verwijderd waren. TV moeten verbinden en opnieuw moeten installeren. Voor sommigen misschien details maar zou in orde moeten zijn.

On the surface the hotel has a lot going for it: great location, pretty rooms. But our experience did not live up to its location. First no one was really ever at the front desk on a regular basis. So there was no one to assist us when we had a question. Second, the hotel was dirty. Rugs had not been vacuumed. Room was dusty and needed a fresh paint. The dishes were grimy. I had to ask to have our room serviced and even then they did the bare minimum. Came home to dirty cups and glasses not replaced nor soap or shampoo provided. The only really nice thing was the size of the room and the shower. This is not, in any way, a four star hotel. More like a two star hotel. It’s too bad because the hotel has good bones. It just desperately needs new ownership/management.

Dit hotel heeft een hele mooie ligging in een mooi oud pand. Echter was de kamer niet schoon; haren op het bed, glazen die niet schoon waren en heel veel stof. Verder zat de kraan in de badkamer los en zaten de knoppen voor koud & warm omgedraaid (leuke ervaring bij het pakken van koud water!) Een ontbijt zat niet inbegrepen en was in een nabijgelegen hotel, hotel De Prince (heel goed verzorgd!). De locatie is dus perfect, midden in het centrum, maar verder viel het verblijf wel wat tegen.

Lovely building in one of the oldest streets in the city. Although check in was 'different' it worked really well and the gentleman who booked us in was very friendly. The public car park is a short walk away by the railway and you need to pay by cards. None of my UK Mastercard or Visa cards would work with the machines but my wife's Barclaycard did; no idea why but something to be aware of. You can get a ticket for the duration of your stay so no need to go back every 24 hours. There is no restaurant at the hotel but that is not a problem as there are dozens of cafes, bars and restaurants in the area, in fact we were spoiled for choice. The room was huge, as was the en suite and the bed was very comfy. The fridge was a bit noisy as was the air con but not enough to disturb our sleep although the local beers may have helped! Thoroughly recommended and will certainly be going back.

This hotel was a major letdown for me. Considering the price, I had at least expected a clean room. Although it had a nice-looking, old-fashioned style, my room was unfortunately filthy. To be honest, it was truly disgusting. I discovered a dozen human hairs on the bed sheets, the bathroom was stained from the previous guest, and the toilet had traces of feces(!!). Adding to my disappoin**ent, the reception was closed when I arrived around 9:30 pm, so I had to call a phone number to gain entry (they only answered after my second call). I found my key card at the front desk, with nobody available to address my concerns about the dirty room. It felt like I had no choice but to reluctantly accept it and sleep in already-used bed sheets. Absolutely revolting! I will never stay here again!

Bed was soft but comfortable as were the pillows. We were handed the key cards by a man sitting outside the hotel who then disappeared no staff in evidence till following morning. Safe in room was locked. Right in the pedestrian centre so unable to drive to the hotel. Parking in public car park 5 mins walk away. Charges only from 9am to 9pm. We arrived 7pm and overnight cast 10cents. Fine for an overnight stay. Despite being central the rooms were quiet.

"Hotel" without reception, no breakfast place you have to go outside, no place to safely store lugage for early or late arrival. At arrival you have to wait outside and call to get in, realy nice when it rains. Also skme issues with room cleaning.

The room was quite spacious and very clean. The bed was so comfortable, I did not want to get up next morning. The staff also was very helpful. I will Definitely come back next year.

This four stars hotel is located in the heart of the city centre of Nijmegen, on a historical street full of lovely shops, bars and restaurants. The location is very convenient, and it is 10 minutes walking distance from the central train station. The hotel is located in a historical building that has been renovated and has an elevator. Unfortunately, I cannot give you entirely positive feedback: the room is spacious but lacks equipment. The bathroom has no furniture, just one hook on the door to hand towels. The furniture in the room is also too few. One tiny hanger and no wardrobe at all. I had to spread my clothes on the sofa and the chair. There is a giant flat TV screen but nowhere to leave my suitcase. There was overall a massive lack of care for every possible detail. Cleaning was superficial, and I only was given a light duvet (in mid-July) without further bed sheets (only a mattress cover). I should not complain because I was given a bed, toilet, hot water, shower and a roof. But I was expecting something more from a four-star hotel that I paid almost 150 euros per night.
