Don’t be deceived by the name or appearance of Hotel Khems. While it may look like an ancient palace in pictures, it’s just an old, poorly maintained building. Our experience was frustrating right from the start. We arrived early, and the staff directed us to wait in the restaurant—only for us to discover that the restaurant was non-operational. When they finally gave us a room, the bedsheets were covered in cat hair. We asked for a different room and were told to wait in the lobby until other guests checked out. After some time, they handed us a “special” room, claiming it was prepared with extra care, but it turned out to be a big disappointment The corner room we received was not worth the ₹2,500 per night we paid. The room’s condition was poor, with old, worn-out amenities: an ancient kettle, flask, and two dusty glasses. The windows were broken and wouldn’t close properly. Our view was the terrace of a neighboring building, filled with people making noise while dining. It felt like staying in a congested, dilapidated structure. The entire hotel looks outdated and in dire need of renovation. Unfortunately, we paid in advance for two nights—a big mistake. We couldn’t tolerate staying for even one night and decided to leave, forfeiting ₹2,500. Don’t expect any refunds or solutions from the hotel; they were unwilling to address our concerns. The staff may sound polite, but it’s just sugar-coated talk. To make matters worse, the room entrance sensor malfunctioned, requiring us to wrestle with the door for about 10 minutes every time we tried to open it. The hotel didn’t inform us that the restaurant was under maintenance, yet they charged us ₹2,500 per night—without breakfast.Khems rooms are worth only for 500-1000 rs,not more than that. There are no nearby eateries, so you’ll need to venture quite far to find a decent place to eat. The only positive was the sightseeing cab service. Special thanks to Mr. Satish, who arranged a ride and allowed us to visit the Murugan Temple without extra charges. Kudos to Mr. Anand, the driver, for his friendly demeanor and patience, which made the ride enjoyable. Overall, Google’s reviews for this hotel seem misleading, and the entry image on their listing is also deceptive—it’s taken from a nearby terrace to make the entrance look appealing. If you want a pleasant stay in Ooty, I strongly recommend exploring better options like Glenton Paradise or Lake View. Our entire trip was ruined by this experience, and we had to leave a day early for another hotel in another city..Don’t fall for Google’s suggestions—Hotel Khems is not worth your time or money.
