Staying at Houw Hoek is always a pleasure - the staff are polite, friendly and cheerful, the food is very good, the rooms large and beds comfortable, and the location lovely (not to mention being so close to the Houw Hoek farm stall across the road!)

Location is beautiful. Really great child friendly hotel. You can sit on your patio while kids enjoy one of 2 outside pools. Great games room with arcade games. Also has a large park with a trampoline. There is a putt putt course for older kids or adults. Nature trails for hiking or runs. Spa for massages and other beauty treatments. Breakfast buffet was great. Restaurant is reasonably priced for dinners. But food can take some time getting to you.

Staff at reception seems to have a bit of an attitude. Not very friendly. Almost like they are paying you to stay. The location is good and quiet. Room service food was a bit of a letdown. No cutlery. The food was cold. Not recommend. Breakfast was very good. Got woken up at 7am by gardening work. When I called reception, they told me it is next door. That is it,deal with it... If I stay again. Big if then I will take my own food with me for dinner. And earplugs for the noise.

I was thoroughly disappointed by staff service. Their service was poor and they treat people according to the skin colour.

The hotel was a stop over after a long flight as it close to Cape Town on the way to the Garden route. We booked a massage at 4pm but they closed at 4pm so that was a bit disappointing after we received confirmation. The Rooms are definitely value for money and the staff very friendly. The dinner was disappointing for the ribs with no flavour I did not finish it and the tirramisu was not a tirramisu it was some sort of an attempt that fell short of what it was supposed to be.

The hotel is quite dated and could possibly do with some upgrades to the menu and dining/restaurant area however the staff are friendly and the basics were provided to make the stay pleasant.

Room 86 was large & clean with great bedlinen. Pity the TV didn't work even after a room service attendant tried new batteries in remote. For the price I expected a bath. No room service menu in room & the food tired and cold when eventually it came. Insufficient tea bags and old outdated service platform with sterimilk when fridge could have had fresh milk. Breakfast poor & a broken toaster. no-one knew how to repair. Attendants largely dismissive and poorly trained. Everything seems run-down and out of date so a disappointing visit overall. And insufficient notice warning of what seemed like a septic tank swamp and nothing protecting guests walking across the wet lawns. The best of it all was a Spa massage and sauna which was well priced and provided

We went to the houwhoek inn for our anniversary weekend away. We were met with pleasant helpful staff at a very quaint and historic building. Our room was clean and tidy and a bit more than I had expected with amazing Mountain View’s.

Booked lunch for mothers day. What a disappointment. We had to explain the difference between fried and grilled calamari to our waitress several times, despite the option being on their menu. In the end we asked her to rather write it down on her note pad. Ordered hake served on rice and they forgot the rice. We ended up with a plate of rice to be shared by the table after informing them thay they forgot the rice. Asked for salt and pepper after being served we got packets of salt and pepper as you would at a take away restaurant. There was mess up with our bill. Forgot knives and forks. Your local wimpy and spur would be 100% better. No windows open despite serving 30 plus guest. Will not recommend. Will not be going back. Blast from the past.
