Peldon Rose

We visited on Sunday the 19th February while staying on Mersea Island. We were a party of six. Four adults and two children of fourteen and ten. The restaurant was busy with people coming and going which is a great sign. As soon as we entered we were blown away with the character of the building. It’s absolutely stunning! Wood beams throughout and really gives you a historical feel. We arrived for our reserved table at just before 5pm. We were greeted by the hostess, who was very friendly and professional she showed us to our seats immediately. Service was excellent, prompt and efficient throughout our visit. We were given time to ponder the menu (which has a huge amount of choice) there is literally something for all ages and tastes. There is a children’s menu for smaller children. Also a choice of small and large portion sizes for several of the mains to cater for different sized appetites. Drinks orders were taken and delivered promptly. The children shared a cheesy garlic bread pizza to start, followed by mains of (large portions) of lasagne with salad and crusty bread and a side of chips. The adults ordered two large plates of the lamb Sunday roast, a small plate lamb roast and a small plate lasagne with salad and crusty bread. The portion sizes were spot on. The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, hot and enjoyable. The lamb literally fell apart. We were provided with mint sauce and our roasts had plenty of gravy. For pudding my husband and I shared a cheeseboard with Stilton and Brie. This came with celery, apple, grapes, onion chutney, crackers and butter. Fantastic quality produce, not cheap rubbish. Our whole experience was wonderful. We will absolutely return in our next visit to the island. I highly recommend the Peldon Rose.

Went here for Sunday lunch. It was a great setting with lots of specials on the board and the roast was lovely, ploughman’s looked amazing. We had to wait a while but it was worth it. We all got stuck in as we were starving and forgot to take pictures but this was the peldon mess. Will definitely go back again.

We actually visited this restaurant in May 2021 and was extremely happy with the food and service, especially as things was still up in the air with Covid. We decided we would have lunch again at this restaurant, as we was close by and due to the fact we was impressed with our visit in May 2021.Well what can I say,keep up the good work, the food was still top notch, we both had fish and chips, which was cooked beautifully. It is so refreshing to find a pub we ate in that even after two years, still has excellent food, staff and service. The pub/restaurant it's self is beautiful as is the pond, that has lots of fish and gorgeous lily's, a totally relaxing atmosphere. Totally recommend and we will be back even though we live a good hour a way, but this time we wont leave it so long.

VISITED TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HAVE TO SAY IT WAS SUPERB. I HAD THE SEAFOOD LINGUINE AND IT WAS THE BEST I HAD EVER HAD. MY PARTNER HAD THE PAN FRIED DUCK AND AGAIN IT JUST COULD NOT BE FAULTED IT WAS SUPERB. SERVICE WAS GREAT AND PRICING VERY REASONABLE FOR THE QUALITY SERVED. WE WILL BE BACK

Our second visit - the food was wonderful again, the service excellent and surroundings special. We will return, though we live 2 hours away in Bedfordshire - we first found the Rose as we headed for home after a visit to Mersea and were so impressed that we made a special trip today to take lunch. Thank you!

Visited several times ( 6 or 7 to be more precise) since moving to England with my 2 year old daughter in April last year. All was fine up till today’s visit when one of the staff member ( luckily she was not there during all our previous visits), happened to have a pedophobia (extreme fear of children). I was literally talked off several times for having my kid walking around, even though I was with her at all times and she was quiet! It’s astonishing when people expect toddlers to sit in one spot around the table for more than hour waiting for dinner to arrive! If Peldon Rose is a child free place I totally get it and would not show up with a kid, but it’s not! So, please, some tolerance and understanding! You do let people with dogs in!!! Very disappointing. My daughter is a kind, sweet soul who always gets smiles from people around. But not at Peldon Rose!

Small rack of ribs and ham egg n chips were both perfectly fine as was the chilean sauvignon, pleasant dining area outside by the pond beside the side road and also in the rear garden. Very efficient and personable landlady struggling a little with availability of bar/waiting staff.

Hadn’t been to a Peldon Rose for years so decided to revisit🤗😎☀️My vegetarian lasagne was delish, fruit strudel and custard yummy. My husbands starter whitebait was good, however on seeing his salmon dish on the pass for about 5minutes,when it was served it was well overdone! His couscous with sunblushed tomatoes and garlic and spinach had been replaced by peas and mangetout 😳without explanation. The mango sorbet icecream was excellent. Coffee outside perfect. Will book again🤗

Beautiful and old world. Low wooden doors, with beams. Gardens and seating outside is lovely with a pond/lake. Cosy seating areas with fireplaces. Lovely meals . I ha fish and chips. The portions could have been lkargetebut it was tasty Nice bar.
