A440 in Tuscany

The A440 website markets the property very well but the experience didn’t match up to our expectations. We booked 2 nights directly with them in June. A swimming pool is important to us and the description of it on the website ‘ Immerse yourself in our natural swimming pool and its complete tranquillity ‘ couldn’t have been further from the truth. On turning up at the property we found a sign up outside it saying ‘ THIS IS A BIOLAKE, IT’S NOT A SWIMMING POOL’. The water was filthy with green slime down the side. See pictures. The whole of the garden area looked as though it needed a good tidy up, grubby, with uncomfortable, tatty sunbeds, one of which I fell through when I lay on it. Yes, the views are amazing, but if you’re looking to enjoy them immersed in a lovely cool pool, forget it! We explained to the lady on reception we’d never have booked if there hadn’t been a pool, and requested a cancellation of our 2 night booking but she very politely refused.

So much love for this place! From the moment we rolled up the terrible road you've probably already read about in other reviews - we know we'd love this place. It's serene and off the beaten track - still close enough for a walk to Centro storico in Pienza in like 10 min. The pool area is unlike any pool area I've ever seen.. Dining at the outdoor space by the restaurant while the sun sets over the valley... Waking up with a view through the glass door (annex room) looking out over the valley as the sun colors it with its morning orange tinted light. . Extra plus for having clearly labeled Vegan options on the menu. The Burger was great and the ancient grain pasta dish as well. Impeccable service. Oh, the only thing is that there was no plant based milk for coffee/with cereals at breakfast. We didn't really see the function of the extremely large social space/lounge in the main building but I'm guessing family's might book several rooms and then simply hang out there to socialize. Wifi is spotty/poor. But I don't mind. I rather just look at the views and maybe even get a little bored... That's the zen vibe one will get from visiting the a440. I'll be back. That's for sure.

It is a terrible place, they try to give the impression that they got several stars, but they do not deserve more than 3,...being generous, our room was in the attic, no air conditioning and warm, the weather is hot. Not much care for visitors, as an example they started cutting the grass before 9 AM generating a horrible noise. Sorry but my free advice to everyone would be try another one in Pienza .

We are forever in love with Hotel A440 in Tuscany!! It is situated overlooking the Val D'Orcia which provided unparalleled views of Montalcino and San Quirico and the most exquisite sunsets. They have a fabulous restaurant onsite where we enjoyed both a relaxing hearty breakfast and a delicious dinner both days. We actually cancelled our second night dinner reservations to return to the A440 restaurant! The staff was so pleasant and hospitable, and we really enjoyed Barbara's local recommendations for wine, food and shopping. The room was comfortable and offered a private garden and sliding patio doors. The best part was that while the hotel was nestled into the tuscan hills, it was also only a 10 minute walk along a back gravel path that led right into the gorgeous and charming town of Pienza. We did our wine and cheese tastings there and stumbled back for dinner without having to worry about driving from a winery. I would definitely recommend the area - we did visit a few sites in Montalcino but Pienza stole our hearts.

Posto molto particolare, più per stranieri che per italiani. Molte chicche a livello di arredamento, una ottima prima colazione ma un paio di bonari appunti: strada un po' troppo poco agevole, aldilà del fatto che abbiamo una macchina per fortuna alta e forse prezzi leggermente troppo elevati rispetto alla stanza offerta. Diciamo che l'estetica prevale sulla praticità. Bagno molto piccolo e senza finestra. Comunque molto confortevole, sembra di stare in Provenza. Grazie per la bella ospitalità.

hotel bem localizado próximo ao centrinho de Pienze (de carro), com bom quarto, e bom café da manha, único ponto negativo colocamos em relação á "piscina"que na verdade é um lago com lodo, sabíamos disto, e achamos que se fosse transformado em uma piscina padrão seria uma experiencia muito mais gostosa, teríamos ficado mais tempo aproveitando a vista.
