Far from a 5 star resort barely makes a 2 star. we are pretty easy going people but literally the beds were so uncomfortable and the pillows were super hard and old ,got extra pillows still couldn’t sleep. The a la crate restaurants had terrible food the buffet was not bad. The beach is nice but there is no security there to keep you safe , locals and criminals can enter as it’s a “public beach”.

This property is one of the cleanest resorts we have ever stayed at. There is always someone discretely cleaning the walkways, rooms, and grounds. The people are extremely nice. All of them. There is always things going on. Activities by the pool and the beach. At night there is a show or music. They really try to get everyone involved in an activity.
The beach is amazing. So big and they clean up any seaweed on the beach daily. They have many lounge chairs on the beach and have servers walk around all day for drink orders by the pool and even on the beach.
We tried all of the restaurants and buffet. We are not super picky people. All the food was good. I loved not having to make reservations for the restaurants. If there was a wait they give you a pager and you can go sit and have drinks until your table is ready. We never had a super long wait. I think the longest wait was 20 minutes.
There is a little shopping area within a 5 to 10 minute walk that has souvenir shops and clothing shops. 5th avenue is a 5-10 minute cab ride away. You could even walk there.
We were able to visit all the RIU hotels by staying at the Palace Riviera Maya. We walked through all of them to see what they’re like. They seem to all be similar. We did enjoy ours the most though.
There is also a liquor, snack and pharmacy store just below the hotel that has anything you need. We didn’t need anything but snacks for the plane ride home.
We would definitely recommend this resort to friends.

We have traveled extensively across the globe for work and we desperately needed this vacation. Our vacation could not have been more perfect. The team at RIU Palace were at the top of their game. From checkin to the moment we had to leave was absolutely top notch.

We had a wonderfully restful and yet fun time at the Maya Rivera. The facilities were excellent and the staff were wonderful too!

Riu Palace is stunning. This was our fourth visit and there were many improvements and upgrades. I enjoyed the aqua fit classes and the live music every night. The beach was beautiful. We tried four of the specialty restaurants and the food and service were fantastic. The housekeeping staff were amazing. There were balloons and a bottle of tequila on my husband’s birthday and cute towel critters daily. This is our happy place and we can’t wait to come back.

I cannot say enough good things, the property was beautiful! The cleanliness was remarkable. The staff is just amazing, they go out of their way to make you happy. The food was mediocre but everything else was so amazing it didn’t even bother me! The beach was beautiful and the pools are awesome! I will be back for sure!!!

This was our third time at Riu Palace and it never disappoints! Fantastic service and great accommodations! Will be back again! Santos in the pool bar was the BEST!!

Food was good, beach was great with nothing but sand as deep as you could walk into the ocean. Bar drinks were good as was the service

The RIU is one of many resorts located in the secure area of Playcar which is in Playa del Carmen. Safe and fun. I highly recommend the RIU's
