Great place to relax and hang out do adventures If you want you can also join the adventure of hearts that explore and ex carrot and the resort is right on the beach so that you can have fun in the sun

This is a fabulous resort, with outstanding service. We stayed in the Oasis area, which is set back from the beach, and very private and quiet. It was amazing. The food was excellent too.

Great location, great food, and friendly staff! We chose this hotel for our honeymoon and had a lovely experience. We enjoyed being close to both the beach and to the shopping district, and we took advantage of the spa and excursions through the hotel.

Liked: the view from the ocean view room (upstairs). The pool is very close to the ocean. The location is perfect.
Disliked: you cannot “book” King or Queens, you can only request and it is not guaranteed. There is this annoying noise you hear in the room coming from faucets in the bathroom.
Did not get any of the ******* perks.

This is nice property in super location but the EXTREME NOISE in the rooms is unbearable. There is beach club at fair side of the resort that pumps out extremely loud music from 1pm to 4am morning and when your in your room its like been in the middle of the club. So if planning afternoon nap or sleeping before 4am in morning its hard. i used my earpods noise cancellation at night. The rooms are grand but basic not even irons in the rooms. Beds are is so so ...All the resort Staff are fabulous with exception for front desk staff, I guess they don't have to be nice since they don't work for tips. Food at Las Olas is okay for breakfast but stay clear for dinner buffet its very bad ... instead you can swap dinner for lunch at Fuego which you get starter, main and dessert or you can use for dinner but only get $27 pp at this restaurant .. lunch served till 5pm so late lunch is great value and food is good.
This hotel DO NOT recognize the fact there are ******* VIP hotel.. i said it 3 times to guy checking me in and next morning asked to changed rooms due to noise , smell and darkness of first room, the receptionist did seem to care at all about my complaint and fact that food the night before at Las Olas was uneatable .. very bad .. i said again to her about upgrade i wasn't given and other extras which i listed to her , she just completely ignored what i was saying .. ******* you need to review this as they are not VIP complaint.

My wife and I have been coming to the Mahekal over the past several years and it is our understanding that ownership has changed during this time. It is a really nice resort right on the beach but we feel like the food quality has gone down after changing hands. When you enter a resort at check in your first impression is most important and this is where the Mahekal drops the ball. I have seen many guests arguing with personnel who appear to have no people skills and are to rigid to be the people welcoming guests. Example when guests are offerered perks while booking on line honor them. A suggestion that would go a long way with your guests would be to put a pleasant face with a smile up front to greet your guests with a glass of champagne or cold water.. Stop nickel and diming your guest by serving cheap poor quality liquor and requiring a beverage upgrade. You would be better served in the long run to charge one price and serve a better product. Other resorts do it and it builds brand. In our opinion the reputation of this resort is slowly declining because of attitudes at the front desk, and the diminishing quality of food and beverage. That being said the wait and bar staff are to be recognized as top notch, the resort grounds impeccably kept, the beach clean and comfortable, and the the multiple pools well kept. It is still my wife’s favorite resort for in town Playa, we just feel like they need to upgrade their game for what you pay if they want to stay on top.

Very well kept and managed property. Rooms are comfortable and the hammocks on the porches offer a great escape if the beach sun is too much. Great security on the property. We did partial board which was breakfast and dinner, food was very good and lots of variety. There was ample space on the two lounging areas by the ocean with comfortable loungers. Easily can access nearby shops. I used the gym daily, has basic weights and cardio and kept a comfortable temperature to actually work out.

the rooms were sparkling clean and the staff was wonderful. the grounds were gorgeous. i had a weird experience at the spa where i was shorted on my 80 minute massage by almost half an hour but they made it up to me. when i went back for the additional 30 mins i booked a facial as well which to be completely honest was super overpriced and the guy used tissue paper to clean my face and put over my eyes etc. i didn't think that it was worth the $175 USD i paid for it plus i am canadian so with the exchange rate it cost more than a spectacular oxygen facial i could get here in Toronto. that was a bummer.
the food was okay. sometimes delicious and sometimes not.

Let me start with the positive. The waitstaff and cleaning crew are amazing- pleasant and responsive. The property is pretty and the food is excellent for an all inclusive. This place fails with management and a total lack of customer service. We booked two beds, which I personally confirmed directly with the hotel a month ahead of time. When we arrived they told us that they only had a king and could switch it the next day. The resort was half empty so there is no excuse for this. Any simple thing requested at the front desk was met with a "no" and an attitude. As the owner of a travel business I can't express how big of an issue this is at this hotel- it makes for an unpleasant experience as you feel like you are pulling teeth for basic services. The extras that you allegedly get with ******* will be conveniently "unavailable"- again with the hotel at half capacity. The room smells of mold which suggests that they shut the AC down when not in use- I suspect the lack of "rooms" is because they rotate which ones they use. The outdoor shower was filthy- it hadn't been stepped in in many months. The small pool in area 9 was filthy- cloudy, dirty and without running water. This place has incredible potential but it just appears as if they are struggling financially or that the owners simply don't care. Disappointing.
