Rodeway Inn & Suites Plymouth Hwy 64

Okay, I read a bunch of reviews, and let's be real here--you get what you pay for in hotel rooms, up to a certain point. So at this end of the price scale, things are going to be spartan. Our room (103) was clean, the fire alarm was working, and there were zero bugs. The bed was not great, but not the worst I've slept in, and the pillows were fine. The room and bath were spacious enough, and--important for my mobility issues--on the first floor with rails for shower and toilet. The AC, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker all worked fine, and honestly were more than I expected of this kind of room. The front desk person was very warm and friendly and told us a lot about the town of Plymouth when we checked in. We skipped breakfast, so I can't speak to that. Again, at this price, do not expect a resort buffet, y'all. On the negative side, the coverlet (they always make me skeevy no matter where I am) had cigarette burns in it, as did the carpet, and the non-smoking room had a pervasive aroma of stale smoke. The door bar guard was broken, which made me feel insecure enough to put a table in front of it. The hotel is just spang off of NC 64, and you'll hear cars going past. This is not a hotel to come hang out in--it's a stop on the way to or from the Outer Banks for a night, and for that, it's fine, but I suggest traveling with a room deodorizer spray and lowering your expectations.

I had reserved 2 rooms through ***********. The motel's website's photographs showed well kept rooms & public areas. However, I knew I was in trouble as soon as I walked into the motel office to check in. The carpet was filthy & the furnishings were in extremely poor condition. Wisely, I asked to view the rooms prior to finalizing my check-in. While waiting for the clerk to show the rooms, 2 men checked in at the same time. I noticed the men were in separate vehicles, and waiting in each of the vehicles were 4 or 5 younger women. I think you can draw your own conclusions as to what their business was there. Upon viewing our reserved rooms, I found them to have stained carpeting & bedspreads, & the shower curtains moldy. The furnishings were very shabby & dirty. One room's bathroom ceiling had severe water damage & was sagging into the tub/shower. I explained to the clerk that there was no way that we would overnight in these conditions. She explained that there would be no refund since we had gone through ***********. I'm fairly sure that after hearing the note of hysteria in my voice, she realized that we could, indeed, cancel. After a number of phone calls between *********** & the hotel clerk, the charge was removed from my credit card. Seriously, do not stay here. I've never seen a property so run-down & unclean.
