Having had a wonderful holiday in Ialyssos pre pandemic at a 5 star beach hotel we decided to return, however when we saw that the Sunday hotel had such high reviews and for such less money we decided to give it a go. What a mistake. Having arrived at the hotel and waited for around 15 minutes for a member of staff to show up in a small pokey reception area we were directed to our room. We entered the dated lift which had a large puddle of water on the floor and made our way to room 311. On entering our room and looking around for a few minutes we made the decision that we wanted out of the hotel there and then. This hotel is advertised as a 3 star hotel, absolutely no chance. I have stayed in better youth hostels than this. Apparently we had been put in an area of the hotel which had not yet been refurbed, yet paid a similar price to those rooms that had (which must get the good reviews) The apartment was simply unsafe and unusable. The cooking area was positioned underneath wooden stairs which had a clearance of around 3 feet from the floor, absolutely no way should this pass health and safety as it’s nothing but dangerous. The fridge was literally under the stairs and so you couldn’t access it unless you were 2 foot in height, you’d have to crawl. The bathroom/toilet door was broken with hinges ripped off, it wouldn’t close and if you were to open the front door it would blow open. The shower was tiny, which meant you couldn’t even turn in the shower. The apartment was dark and dingy with very dated 90s decor. Utensils were dirty, like they hadn’t been replaced for decades, mouldy chopping boards etc. Clothes Storage space was an issue with one small wardrobe to fit two peoples clothes, no drawers etc and again sharp hinges broke off and sticking out. Lastly we like to spend time on the balcony of a day and night, this was furnished with cheap plastic chairs, again dirty and a table which was filthy, mouldy and chipped all over. The view was literally of a huge tree, positioned right infront of our balcony. We asked reception if we could be moved but this wasn’t possible so we asked for a refund and then managed to move to a far better hotel not far away. When we received our bank transfer refund it was at an extortionate rate, therefor we lost over £100, but that was a small price to pay in order to get the hell out of there. On a side note regarding outside space, when we arrived at 2pm already all the sunbeds were taken so no room there, and as we waited for everything to be sorted out regarding our cancellation we used the bar which we found to be expensive compared to the resort bars nearby. Also they had put breakfast up by €1.50 per person since we had booked, which again would have been a disappointment. Sunday hotel? I wouldn’t stay there again on a Sunday or a Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday or Saturday!
