Spent 2 nights at the Giardino Verdi as part of a 10-day road trip around Lake Garda - and it was a brilliant base from which to explore Riva del Garda. The hotel has clearly been recently renovated, resulting in an ultra-modern, clean look and feel - very different to the more traditional hotels elsewhere around the lake. Sometimes in an effort for clean, slick lines, functionality has been forgotten, but a comfortable stay nonetheless. The hidden gem here is the rooftop terrace - superb. A tranquil spot with a jacuzzi, loungers, bean bags, yoga studio and sauna. Brilliant to unwind after a day of exploring. But, aside from the wonderful lady at breakfast (who spent 21 years in Lewisham), the staff need to have some level of customer service training as they have none - the receptionist in particular! The hotel is located within a restricted car zone, which you can normally access if staying in the area. We drove through it only for the receptionist to appear quite aggrieved that we had done (see picture saying we could), despite no prior warning, and that she would “try” and ensure we were not fined. On checking out, I asked if it had been resolved: “I’ve submitted the form; we’ll now have to see” I really expected a £200-a-night hotel (yes, parking is £30/night, bumping up the cost, and is a 10-min walk away!) to take its responsibility to its guests seriously, and that starts with ensuring we’re not incorrectly fined - just as other hotels on our trip did. Ultimate question: would we return? No - not at the cost, the attitude of most staff and availability of other quality accommodation in Riva.
