L'Orangerie

This hotel is possibly the most characterful we have ever stayed in. It appears to be run by one elderly but charming man (he must have help as well) and is behind a forbidding door and large wall with a wonderful secret garden on the other side. We were bidden to arrive no earlier than 4pm and certainly could not attain access before then. We were then taken up a winding staircase to a wonderful large room on the 1st floor overlooking both the (quiet) street and the garden. At our sole disposal was a huge sun terrace with plants and garden furniture. The bathroom was also vast with a large bath and separate double shower - not modern but charming and furnished with the same odd mix of old and new as the bedroom. The day and night were very hot we had open all the full length windows and the ceiling fan on full tilt. A storm during the night meant flying curtains, a lot of noise and not much sleep but I would stay here again in a shot. Breakfast before our flight in the morning was very simple- lucky we brought our own tea-bags!
